I thought Longlegs was good! Maika and Nic both turned in phenomenal performances. The movie didn't scare me, but it did unsettle me in a way that few movies have (The Exorcist and CATS are also on the list).

Part of the problem with marketing the movie as one of the scariest of all time is that it leaves too much to individual expectations. Ask ten different people what scares them in a movie and you'll probably get ten different answers. They didn't necessarily shoot themselves in the foot with all of that hype, but I felt some initial disappointment when it wasn't exactly what I thought it would be.

It creeped me out for sure but I wouldn't say I was necessarily terrified at any point. Quite a few of the moments that got my heart going were because of blaring audio.

I'll say that since having my daughter, certain scary things involving children kills me. Longlegs's interactions with some of the kids were hard to watch.

Who are they? I think I'm just having trouble recognizing those scenes. I had to check the comments to figure out that's Samara Weaving.

    Anya Taylor Joy, ???, ???
    ???, Jenna Ortega, Samara Weaving
    Kathryn Newton, ???, Maika Monroe

Like, I get that for X that's like an iconic face, but Jenna's not the lead in that. Should've used Scream
and speaking of Scream, Samara Weaving isn't the lead in that. Should've used Ready or Not.
I know it's a dumb post to get engagement but the execution is all wrong

Depends on your definition of scream queen more than anything. It’s never been as clearly defined as Final Girl. I always think of Barbara Crampton’s piece on not wanting to be called a scream queen.

For me, it’s never been about being a lead. More so frequently in different films and having memorable moments such as their screams/deaths. Samara and Jenna are my favorites. There’s been a lot of memorable women in horror in the last ten years.

Just finished Killer Body Count by the director who did the Banana Split movie and recent Slumber Party Massacre reboot.

Pretty good for a Tubi Original. A silly and self aware horny slasher with a religious theme. Tubi is good at supporting and releasing queer horror films.

  10. Oh duh, I know all those people. It's the screenshots they used. Which movies are they from? I haven't seen The Nun

Idk if Taissa is in one or both, but it’s definitely from one of them. Melissa’s is actually from a Netflix(I think?) series called Keep Breathing. Mia’s is from Marrowbone. Georgina’s is from Barbarian

Tried to watch Happy Birthday to Me for the weekly horror movie but Tubi is acting up. Going with A New Beginning now instead

Sounds like your nephew needs to catch an Uber so the adults can have their little scary movie.

The previews would probably still be playing when the game starts (not an actual spoiler)

Speaking of that, does anyone else get frustrated at the disparity between advertised showtimes and when the movie actually starts?

Absolutely! My Longlegs showtime was at 7 and the movie didn’t actually start until a little after 7:30.

I feel like even general audiences have to be at a point where they’re seeing all these trailers online anyway, so at least dial it back a bit. Our lives are wasted enough on ads and commercials as is. But I did appreciate the exclusive Anora trailer. lol

not sure if Anora is quite horror (I mean I know it’s not - it’s Sean Baker) tho I’m not really sure what else it might be other than a character study about a sex worker, which is already interesting enough imo

saw a trailer earlier and I’m intrigued for sure

Yeah I’m interested but also frustrated with the idea of exclusive trailers, and it always great to catch something new like Anora. I just hate that “showtimes” are no longer actual showtimes at all. Idk if you go to a Regal, but what you described is the same for us. Trailers won’t even kick off when the showtime starts most of the time

That’s one of my favorite things about Alamo, movie starts 15 min after showtime every time.

That’s the thing that kills me is that we’ll get used to it and just show up 10, 15 minutes after the showtime but then randomly they’ll occasionally start it earlier. Maxxxine was a weird one where it actually almost started on time. They should just give out lil buzzers when your movie is about to start like at a restaurant
