Always down for more Hell House. Orgins was just as good as the original.

    Just got out of Longlegs.

It’s a little hard to digest on its own, removed from the marketing and hype train, but I liked it. I certainly felt the first act was the strongest, then it kind of lost its way a bit. A few too many plot contrivances for my liking, but performances were great and loved the atmosphere and production design.

But I must say, I’m somewhat fascinated by some of the hyperbolic reactions to this thing, in terms of “scariness.” It’s such a difficult (and often frustrating) point of conversation with this genre, so I try to avoid it altogether, but I didn’t find this anymore fear-inducing than like… an episode of True Detective?

My only negative about tonight was that I saw the trailer for Cuckoo before it. Kinda wish I hadn’t

  11. I can’t remember if that was the same trailer for Cuckoo I’d seen before, but I liked this one more

Anora and Trap are both entirely new to me but I loved both of those trailers. Here for the Josh Hartnett renaissance

I just thought the Cuckoo one showed too much. I think I skipped the trailer that came out because someone said not to watch it. Or at least I didn’t remember seeing most of what was in that trailer.

But yeah Anora looks fantastic and I was hyped we got it because they said it’s being released online next week, so I wasn’t expecting it at all. Honestly all the trailers I got were pretty good except maybe the AIA one

The Cuckoo trailer for me was the same as before. Hadn’t heard of Anora before tonight but def interested.

thought longlegs was solid but flawed. Enjoyable for sure tho

  14. Despite being part of a trilogy, MaXXXine stylistically shares more in common with Ti West's earlier films House of the Devil and The Innkeepers. I mean, yeah, the 80's-ness is very exaggerated and Kevin Bacon and Giancarlo Esposito ate that shit up and had a great time, but for the most part, the acting was less over-the-top and larger-than-life than, say, Pearl. Mia's more restrained performance this time around really highlights her character's emotional journey. I think what's most intriguing about this trilogy is that while the connective tissue is obviously there and they're all operating within the horror genre, the films are so wildly different from each other. I appreciate Ti West and Mia Goth's range as filmmakers.

Pretty much feel the same way. Would need some time to properly articulate why it kind of stumbled in the last act. It almost felt like Perkins added a few ingredients that didn't quite mix in with everything else but overall I still liked it.

I went in pretty blind in terms of visuals/Cage's appearance, and he creeped the hell out of me. The open in particular had my heart racing. I ended up seeing a late screening so I was checking all around me when I walked to my car in the dark. Checked the backseat of the car. Checked the locks of the house five times when I got home. :crylaugh::crylaugh:

Reactions in the movie thread are pretty mixed actually with a bunch of people saying it didn’t work for them. No one seems to straight up dislike it though. I personally loved it and so did my two friends I was with.

My one friend and I took edibles beforehand and I think we both had the perfect high for it. I had to yell at someone after they kept pulling their phone out a bunch of times but besides that I was basically entranced the entire movie. Lol

I had a nice quiet crowd. I could see some of the Cage scenes going over badly with the wrong crowd. Thankfully I didn’t have any issues.

This! Besides me yelling at the dick with his phone, my crowd was dead silent the entire movie and seemed so locked in. That’s why after the phone coming out like 4 times, I just had to say something because he was ruining an otherwise great experience and it wasn’t just me he was bothering.

Maybe bc of the marketing ppl are going in with the wrong set of expectations but Blackcoat's Daughter meets Silence of the Lambs sounds very much my shit

Completely agree with her. The marketing for this was fantastic, but them leaning into the “scariest movie ever. Someone threw up at another horror movie” thing was a bad move. Especially when general audiences say shit like “how was that a horror movie? I wasn’t scared at all”. I felt anxiety and dread throughout the movie and that’s why it worked so well for me. But general audience viewers are going to go into this expecting jump scares or Nic Cage to look like the craziest thing they’ve ever seen. So I hope it still resonates with people that can set those expectations aside because I think this one is going to be talked about for a long time.
