hmmm, I’m honestly having a hard time summing up my thoughts on it ha. it’s rather disorienting and surreal once it “gets going”, feels trippy in a sorta nightmarish way, but it takes its time getting to that point and I can see it being too slow for many. similar to Skinamarink, I can see it being a frustrating experience that doesn’t work for a lot of folks due to the way a lot of it is filmed, though I don’t exactly want to give away too much in saying that. it’s fairly bloody and gory but not exactly in a conventional slasher/gore-fest kind of way. you end up leaving with many more questions than answers, which I almost always tend to appreciate.

    Blow Out is incredible.

Also, Snake Eyes is awesome too … loses me a little at the end, but otherwise great.

Got about 30 minutes into Blow Out but was just too tired. Hopefully tonight!

Never heard of The Rental before, but I like Dave Franco and all the people in that movie. Will watch.

All great, and I don't even consider myself a De Palma head

The Rental is one of those movies that’s really great at building up tension but I wish it had a better ending. It’s solid but could’ve been incredible.

I watched Terrifier 2 last night. I enjoyed it as much, maybe a little more than the first. I think maybe what is most frustrating about these movies (specifically, #2) is that there is so much potential with the story, characters, theme, and effects that it could have been a truly great film. Lauren LaVera was fantastic and can't wait to see what she does next.

    Hmm didn't know about this:

    Terrifier (Short 2011) - IMDb

So the Short came out 5 years before the movie, and then took another 6 years for the sequel?

Can’t wait for the sequel, The Pope’s Exorcist’s Wife

  11. The Happening remains just as baffling as it was 15 years ago. Actually cool premise and death sequences, absolutely bizarre writing and performances (which aren't necessarily on the actors). Is it intentional? Does it even matter?

Looks like I'll be doing Knock at the Cabin tonight.

Visiting my cousins and some friends in Miami, my cousin’s apartment number is 1408 and it made me laugh (scared?)

  14. I haven't seen any Shyamalan recently to compare. Knock at the Cabin has some good performances, especially Bautista, but it's a lot of intelligible yelling, I think I need to rewatch with subtitles at some point. From what I've read about the book's ending I definitely prefer the movie's

I've been doing a lot more reading of comics than watching of horror movies lately--I still haven't picked up where I left off with Mandy, hah--but I did start Lovecraft Country, first episode is great

Hung out/went shopping with friends in my horror movie club a few days ago, one of them pointed out a horror movie looking cover that happened to be Terrifier 2 on DVD and I was like, Nope, not even I would wanna watch that, let alone show it to you

It's kinda funny, I thought it's been long enough since watching Skinamarink that it would no longer have this effect on me, but I found myself at the bottom of the stairs in the dark and just freaked out. it's odd, the face at the end in the dark that you can barely see is scarier than any horror movie that actually shows you the monster

I think he claims (after the fact) that he was trying to make the best B-movie of all time.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

The Visit is a much much better Shyamalan b-movie than The Happening

  22. I watched Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 1997 movie Cure last night. Not strictly horror (more of a crime/mystery thriller), but it was unsettling and gave me the heebie jeebies.

Cocaine Bear was fun. Wasn't as gory as I had hoped but what we did get was awesome.
