  2. This was good and worth watching! Not perfect -- the mockumentary aspect and Exorcist-style spliced footage feels a little cheap -- but it's atmospheric, gorgeous to look at (70mm), and the performances are great. I found it through a Skinamarink review that compared the two, but I'd say this one is definitely quicker/less of an acquired taste. Would be interested to hear some folks' thoughts on it because Letterboxd seems to be raking it over the coals. I watched for free on Amazon with ads (I know).

  3. Skinamarink was very interesting. There’s a scene in the middle of the movie that creeped me the fuck out, but the rest of it was just really interesting and cool to look at, but I’m not sure if it was scary? Unsettling though.

Now onto Smile. I just won’t be sleeping tonight.

  4. I looked this up early today having also found it in Letterboxd reviews, and didn’t add it to my list bc yeah I couldn’t really find a lot of positive stuff about it. The premise sounds interesting though

  5. Smile was way scarier than it looked like it was going to be from the trailers. Yeeeeesh!

started with Resurrection tonight. really made a strong impression on me, might even be one of the best of the year. to no-one's surprise Rebecca Hall absolutely kills it, easily one of the best actors of her generation, she's so fucking good. Tim Roth is also very good in it, insane to think he went from this to She-Hulk in one year lmao

it's fully dark now so the time is right to watch Skinamarink

  7. Did you get to Skinamarink yet? Either way, I'd def recommend adding this to your list if it looks up your alley.

a good one to add to this thread funtimes-with-Skinamarink pile: my power went out 3/4ths of the way through, literally during the scene where the TV starts glitching out. got to walk through my dark house with a phone light to flip the breaker. talk about immersion lmao

as for the movie, I guess I can't say I enjoyed it but it was a unique experience for sure. two hours in the backrooms is a great concept although I'll admit I was getting a little tired in the final stretch. doubt I'd watch it again, but the 3 POV/moving camera sequences were fucking terrifying no doubt

I am sooo excited for Skinamarink. It sounds extremely up my alley. I hope I can convince my girlfriend that we need to watch it tonight or tomorrow.

  11. Yeah, might make time for this tonight. Gotta wait for my wife to go to sleep lol

  12. I did, yeah! Fully immersed myself in the atmosphere and I’m happy to have gotten the full effect but I also have not really stopped thinking about it since, lol

  15. While we’re talking about it, one thing I haven’t really seen acknowledged anywhere about skinamarink is the audio - there’s a lot of praise about how the darkness and grain messes with your eyes and makes you see things that may or may not be there, but the audio kinda does the same in how voices are at times fuzzy or barely audible, creating that “shh… did you hear something?” vibes. Especially with the subtitles, it kinda forces you to hear things that might not even be there
Also that is in no way a spoiler, just covering it for those wishing to go in without expectations

  22. Yep, Krampus still whips ass. It's flawed but tonally insane in the best way, just so fun and unhinged. Kinda shocking that a major studio would greenlight this. The practical effects are so great. It's like one part Gremlins, one part Christmas Vacation, one part Trick r' Treat.

  23. Six episodes into Wednesday. It turns out only the first half was directed by Tim Burton. 5-6 were directed by Gandja Monteiro, and 7-8 by James Marshall. I really liked Monteiro's episodes. There's still cohesion with Burton's episodes, the show's DNA is still in there, but I noticed the difference ever so slightly. The quirkiness and fun were turned down a notch, Wednesday feels a little less like a caricature and a little more like a person. Maybe it's just because of where the show is narratively, though. Jenna Ortega continues to be the best part of this. The murder mystery is unfolding quite nicely.

The Wednesday dance trend on tiktok is inescapable and I love it. Also, this has been brought to my attention: 'Wednesday' fans call out Netflix for hiding tweets suggesting titular character is queer

I adore Krampus. I’ve got the official steel ornament on my Christmas list this year.. hoping the wife picks that bad boy up for me.

Watched Better Watch Out last night. I really wish they showed more, especially that one scene.
