    Absolutely yes to Malignant.

Honestly, if you got bored halfway through Malignant then the second half might not to do much for you either. I personally enjoyed every second of it, but if it wasn't your thing midway through I don't see it becoming appealing. Maybe try another recent favorite of the thread's, like Pearl, The Black Phone, or Prey.

  5. Disagree. There's a chance they won't like the second half too, of course, but the second half redeems itself tremendously, in my opinion. The first half of the movie feels kinda like a cheap Hulu horror movie, but then becomes something great and noteworthy in the second half.

Damn I need to watch Malignant again. I would say definitely keep going. I said this before but each act is like a different subgenre so you might be more interested in where it goes, without giving too much the first act is like a haunted house movie, the second is like The Ring/investigation, and the third just gets nuts but has a lot of action.

Some stuff just landed on Shudder that I am excited about - Alone in the Dark (82), some Fulci I've never seen (Demonia, Manhattan Baby, Aenigma), and some early Christmas horror including Silent Night (2012), SN,DN 3, 4, and 5, Anna and the Apocalypse, and To All A Good Night

You nailed my feelings about the first half. I’ll give the second half a shot!

The second half did not redeem the first half for me enough that I would ever care to rewatch the entire movie, but I would agree it’s worth sticking around until the end.

Pretty disappointed by Barbarian! It was fine, but by the end I realized I was expecting way more, especially after a rather good opening and enjoyable midsection. Definitely pretty fun though.

Made me want to rewatch People Under the Stairs, at least.

  22. Just an observation, it sounds like most people who didn't like Barbarian were either expecting something different ("go in knowing as little as possible!") or expecting it to be better ("fucking wild, absolutely bonkers!"); it almost feels like we overhyped this movie for them

Prey for the Devil is not great not bad. Cheap thrills but subversive where it counts.

The female main characters of 2022 horror films Umma, Smile, and Prey for the Devil battle intergenerational trauma which manifests itself in the form of supernatural entities such as, respectively, a ghost, a curse, and a demon. In this essay, I'll
