H20 was pretty good! not surprised to see Kevin Williamson wrote it lol, his dialogue markers were everywhere. lotta issues still but probably JLC's best performance in the franchise

Watched Hellraiser and I really enjoyed it. I don't recall anything after the first two movies and I haven't seen a couple others, so I went in with no expectations. Pretty good message there at the end. Hope there will another one.

 

About a third of the way through Evil Dead 2013, good so far. Knowing the twist to Don't Breathe, though, it's kind of weird that Fede Alvarez did that to Jane Levy twice.

Edit: finished. Satisfyingly gory with great vfx. Perfect level of campy, paying homage to old horror movie trope where stupid white people fuck around and find out. Jane Levy is great. Haven't seen the original, so I guess this is just another case of me starting with the remake haha

edit2: Hmm I feel like I may have implied that I liked Evil Dead more than Hellraiser when the opposite is the case: the latter is much more closely aligned with my tastes, it's just that I was hoping it would be better

 

The ED remake is tonally much darker

 

Saw Smile again, it is just a really fun time when you know what's coming

 

Halfway thru Deadstream and yep it is a blast so far

I am watching Video Violence for the first time and it is very endearing so far.

 

Also really liked "Second Honeymoon." Wasn't feeling "Tuesday the 17th" and "Emily," but then "10/31/98" was extremely my shit. "Tape 56" was pretty good, too. So basically I liked only the segments from directors whose work I already liked. Overall, some pretty good shit, though.

 

Deadstream was great! My gf yelped out in fear several times lol.

Echoing the universal praise for Deadstream and Hellraiser (2022) in here. Deadstream was so fully my shit that it slipped into my top 10 for the year.

watched Braindead (Dead Alive) for the first time after having it on my list for well over a decade… and Jesus Christ what a gross ass film!

I will! I will hopefully finish the first one tonight (I have about thirty minutes left) and then I'll get to Video Violence 2 later this week! I still find myself questioning whether or not SOV horror is really for me but I am enjoying this one a lot although the torture scenes are a bit tough.

 

I’ve held off this long, I can wait two more weeks.

I'd go see Barbarian in theatres while you can, but I'm so excited to watch it again. That and Nope are my top two horror movies of the year.
