Just stopping in to say I have very vivid childhood memories of “thanks for the ride, lady!”

  2. X was...interesting! Hit about as much as it missed for me. I think it was mostly effective with some good kills and funny moments, but I'm also not sure it all came together for me. And the "Landslide" scene was tonally bizarre

If you're looking for vibes (not a spoiler), I'd say Rob Zombie presents The Visit (produced by A24). If that sounds like your shit, definitely give it a go.

Yea, I just got out of X, too. It was decent overall. Some of the kills are super brutal.

Gonna use spoiler tags since this isn’t the X thread

the fact that the one death, Jackson I think his name was, was off screen seemed odd to me. They really leaned into the gore and blood for everyone else. It just stuck out to me, I dunno. Ortega’s face half blown off was disgusting. And the fact she didn’t die right away, oof. That’s rough. That and the old ladies head just completely becoming nonexistent except for the top of her head was major ouchie.

the Landslide scene was pretty random and out of place. I guess it was meant to be a humanizing type moment? To show they aren’t just porn stars, they’re still normal people. You know, before the killing starts. Not sure if it quite landed for me though.

Having Ortega’s character do a porno scene seemed kind of pointless. Like the other two sex scenes went all out. Then this one was super fast with no nudity. Okay, I guess it was done to give a reason for RJ to attempt to leave. But I feel like her doing a scene would have made a bond between her and Maxine and Bobby-Lynne (had to look that up, I feel like I never heard her name). So when Ortega’s character gets freed by Maxine and is like “I hate all of you” I thought it was a little weird. But she was going through a pretty fucked up traumatic experience, so logic and emotion can go out the window. I don’t say all this as a major flaw by any means, just where my head went for a few moments. I guess I would have done something different to have RJ go off on his own, maybe even caused by the other girls/Jackson to further make Ortega’s character not like them and want nothing to do with them. Fuck it, I looked it up, she’s Lorraine.

Jackson’s cock swaying around in silhouette was the funniest moment for me I think.

Lots of great tense scenes, like when Maxine is swimming with the gator.

glad I saw it. Not sure how often I would come back to it though.

X and Umma are both out. I'll probably see the former this weekend and the latter next weekend

gonna unsub from the X thread until I can see it. sounds like a comeback for Ti though so I'm very in. hopefully it's on digital in the not too distant future

I am very eager to see X and normally would've gone last night but this week and upcoming weekend are packed for me. Hoping to catch it early next week.

Not gonna BRAG, but I’m seeing X this weekend at the Alamo Drafthouse in SF (it’s the closest one near me, leave me alone)

I just watched it for the first time too. I thought it was okay, I guess. It was definitely odd. The kid is like iconic to me as a one of the kids who popped up in Full House and Kindergarten Cop. I hadn’t thought of him in years and years. It doesn’t help that it’s the longest movie in the franchise, I’m pretty sure.

  15. Thank you! I feel like a crazy person every time it comes up but Freddy looks like ass and there's like two kills in the movie lol. Great premise, executed much, much better with Scream

  16. Wanted to throw Maximum Overdrive on last night and was pleasantly surprised to see Studio 666 hit on demand, which I considered seeing instead of X , so U had an amazing new movie day yesterday.

And I loved Studio 666. Just silly and fun with better gore than maybe any movie I've seen since the Evil Dead remake lmao. Watching Dave Grohl in a meta horror movie felt like spending time with an old friend. It's not perfect, but I can't recommend it enough for a good time.

there's two kills in the first 10 minutes of New Nightmare and two more in the rest of the film. which is... the same amount as the original NOES had I think? do not get that critique lmao

  18. Are they on-screen? I revisited my Letterboxd review and wrote that there was "about" two on-screen kills. It's not recent enough that I remember what I meant with "about," but if that's the case, it's pretty weak. The other difference being I remember the kills in the original NOES. New Nightmare doesn't have anything as iconic as the bodybag being dragged across the hallway, or the blood geyser.

Currently watching The Evil Dead for the first time. Which I thought was going to be my first nc-17 film, but after looking up famous nc-17 films I realized I have seen Shame.

yup, the two dudes in the cold open get shredded by Freddy’s new glove, Langenkamp's husband is in a car crash and ofc the babysitter dies in a callback to the original Tina death

I mean, sure, the kills in NOES are more iconic - it's one of the most iconic films in the whole genre - but I still find the kills in New Nightmare plenty intense. actually, in the extras Englund talks about a sequence they had to cut for budget where he (playing himself) gets trapped in a massive spiderweb and eaten by Spider-Freddy, which I think would've been an all-timer for the franchise but

this is... my favourite kill in horror lmao

who cares how many kills are in new nightmare, it’s all about the atmosphere and the meta-resonances, fiction and reality collapsing
