Watching Insidious Ch. 3 for the first time, and fuck it, this is the best of the franchise

I never bothered with any of the sequels, the first was just very forgettable

  3. I enjoyed the first but not the second. Maybe I should try rewatching.

I think Insidious 3&4 are better then 1&2. I think getting away from the Patrick Wilson story was a great choice!

The first is a great standalone, but the 2nd feels like a tacked on 4th act of the first. Still good and Wan continues to flex his direction in the second.

The third is actually creepy and the scares are well earned, even the occasional jump scare.

Just remembered that there’s supposedly gonna be an Insidious 5 that Patrick Wilson is directing

Watched Scream 3 recently. Surprised by how much I thought that one sucked. Felt extremely uninspired and half baked, IMO; couldn't help but think Wes must not have had much interest in making it.

...that reminds me: another huge surprise was how much I liked The Village

  9. Did Takes From the Darkside last night. Never watched the show, but the movie was another silly anthology with fun creature effects!

It reminded me of The Wailing in terms of pacing and length but both movies are worth it if you can endure. Probably one time watches though, for me at least.

It does share a producer with The Wailing

Just saw Antlers. Well made but not very well written imo. Some cool monster design and action. Very bleak but doesn't say much imo

It heavily uses the trope of disturbing child drawings that are clearly done by a professional artist

Also the fact that it uses an indigenous peoples' mythology to tell a story about white people's trauma

But yeah the monster is good

  16. I know nothing about Antlers

We've done this plenty of times before, but I'm running some of my favorite franchises/directors through Bias Sorter and came up with these for F13/Halloween

    F13
    Friday the 13th
    Jason Takes Manhattan
    Part II
    The Final Chapter
    A New Beginning
    Jason Lives
    New Blood
    Freddy vs. Jason
    F13 2009
    Part 3D
    Jason Goes to Hell
    Jason X

    HALLOWEEN
    Halloween
    Halloween II
    The Return of Michael Myers
    Halloween 2018
    Season of the Witch
    The Curse of Michael Myers
    Halloween Ressurection
    Halloween Kills
    Halloween 2007
    Halloween H20
    The Revenge of Michael Myers
    Halloween 2 2009

Jason X, Halloween 5, and Halloween 2 (2009) are the only ones I find borderline unwatchable haha.

My first time seeing this. Perfection.

  19. Finally got back in the mood and made up for Halloween this year by rewatching Hell House LLC and The Houses October Built. Solid little found footage flicks that feel like a haunted attraction while you're watching them, even if they don't really touch Hell Fest or Haunt. Is The Houses October Built 2 worth watching if I enjoyed the first one?

  21. Yeah, it's gotten predominantly negative reviews but a few really positive ones which made me curious. Trailer literally looks like the first movie all over again lol. It's on Hulu, so I may just throw it on and see if it keeps my attention

I had some plans get cancelled, but now I kind of still feel like going out. Should I go watch Antlers?

  24. Okay. Literally begging my bad movie fans to watch The Houses October Built 2 lol. It's insane. It's like...barely a film. There's about one hour of just haunt footage with no story. And then the story you do get is SO over the top. Then, it manages a pretty sick twist that also doesn't really any sense before one of the corniest last shots ever. Oh, and competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi shows up. Two stars. Please watch this movie lol
