  1. Candyman was good! Some of it REALLY worked for me ("it's the whole damn hive") and other parts not so much, but it did a good job of carrying the legacy of the original and presenting a truly unsettling and ultimately human horror story. Glad I finally got to see it.

Does anyone prefer unknown actors in horror films versus well known actors? Maybe it depends more so on the quality of the film since sometimes horror films with well known actors are still good/great (Conjuring, Sinister, etc.) but sometimes it really pulls me out of the moment and constantly reminds me that I’m just watching a movie. As dumb as that may sound. I tried watching the Carrie remake last night and was constantly like “yeah that’s CMG this is weird”. Maybe it was the role because I really enjoy Let Me In and she’s in that but Carrie I just could not find at all believable idk

  5. I don't think a familiar face takes me out of the movie, if anything I was more invested in The Night House because it was Rebecca Hall.

I watched the 2020 version of Wrong Turn last night and was pleasantly surprised at how much better it was than the original. Good way to start the next month plus of binging horror flicks.

I’ve started trying to track how many horror films I’ve seen by each decade. Of course the majority of what I’ve seen has been releases between 2000-2019 so I’m trying to correct that with older releases the next five weeks.

finally watched The Brood (HBO Max) which was pretty awesome and watched Southbound (Hulu) last night which I really enjoyed. Anthology films are usually definitely my shit and I didn’t even know that’s what Southbound was when I put it on so that was fun to discover.

  11. The Brood!

Maybe I should try Southbound again. Laid low this weekend and watched the Slenderman doc on HBO, the Elvira movie, and some Halloween Best of the Worst vids. Really considering Fright Night before bed.

Did Ghoulies III this weekend with my friends. Man the rip I have is absolutely horrible. Adds to the charm of the film, I guess. Yank week!

Also DLed all of the Amazing Stories, Monsters, Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt episodes. Really, really loved "Mummy Daddy" from Amazing Stories. Ton of great character actors in it.

Highly encourage everyone to read Hill's The Black Phone. A haunting, unique story about child abduction. Really excited to see Hawke play a villain!

I saw that at the drive-in when it came out. Surprisingly good but it seemed like everyone just wrote it off

I absolutely HATED the beginning, but the back half redeemed itself.

Was not a fan at all of the direction they took it in tbh. The end credits were cool but it was about the only thing I kinda liked. The antagonist was so confusing too

Watched Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark late last night. Pretty fun and was great to see the book come to life. Last 20 minutes dragged a bit but the rest was a lot of fun.
