The only one I needed a tad bit more clarification on was Theo. I think she comes out of her room for like a second in the first episode? Could be wrong though. But yeah, besides that it's pretty clear I thought.

I was paying full attention to the show - it had me absolutely riveted - and I had a little trouble at first keeping straight which child was Shirley and which child was Theo, but I was able to sort it out real quick. For me it just kinda felt like a side-effect of them doing such a stellar job with the casting. I thought both the adults and the children all felt naturally like siblings and also looked like they definitely could have been those parents' children, particularly the girls with the mom.

I can remember specifically marvelling at the size and detail of the amazing treehouse that Luke was playing in, and thinking to myself how expensive and difficult and time-consuming it would be to build something like that for my kids - and I still literally never had even a shred of a thought as to what we ultimately learn about it. My mind literally never even went there at all with any of them. That reveal hit me hard.

You're right. Steven tells her to go back to bed in the opening scene when he's going to check on Nelly. But kid Theo doesn't have any interactions with anyone after that in the first episode. My sister and I chalked it up to middle child syndrome. Shirley pairs off with Nelly looking for the key, and Steven hangs out with Luke in the tree house. It's clear adult Theo is a sibling though when they all wake up at that same moment in the middle of the night.

Guys, how hysterical is it when at Nelly's wedding, Nelly and Steven are watching Shirley waiting for her to figure out Theo's secret?! I loooove that moment.

The bridesmaids line was laugh out loud good too. The whole wedding was so wholesome.

Man did they get the doe-iest eyes kid to play young Luke. Whenever he looks up high because his glasses are slouching my heart breaks a bit.

It takes me legit like an entire season sometimes to recognize and name characters because of like face blindness issues lmao tho I had it down in a few eps I was def confused at first. I remember trying to watch game of thrones once and all the pale guys with dark hair I was just lost af

I’m pretty sure I have that super recognizer thing and I still have no idea who some people on American Horror Story are sometimes.

yeah I just watched 5 & 6 over the past 2 days. Both were super affecting. I got chills at the end of 5 and then 6 was just brutal (didn't help that election results came in just as I was starting it)

My favorite episode was by far episode 4. It made me love Luke and it was pretty emotional. Probably one of my favorite episodes of TV.
Episode 6 was my second favorite. The second Netflix original show to have a whole episode in a funeral viewing haha

Yeah i haaaated the ending. The last 5 minutes were sooo corny and cringey. It’s a shame cause the books ending is so great and pretty damn bleak. Wish they wouldn’t have gone the route they did. Also the music choose at the end made it even worse

In regards to what seems to be the main complaint about the ending, I just read an article with the actor who plays adult Luke where he was very careful about saying anything specific, but he suggests that maybe it's not as straightforward and happy as it seems at first glance.

It's definitely a reading of the ending that occurred to me while watching it. I read an interview with the director where he mentioned having the window in the last few shots, and I'm honestly glad they didn't do that, as for me that's way too heavy-handed and on the nose. I think there is enough there in the show to consider this a real possibility, even if the show strongly leans towards the ending being played straight.

One of the main things that stood out for me was the face the mother was making at Steven the last time he sees her where she's looking over the father's shoulder while her and Nell are hugging him.

I don't know, the more I think about it, having that window in that last scene would be just the downer note that would have made the cheesy highs in the finale worth it.
