I finally finished this!! God it was so so good. I do agree with some of the criticism about the finale but overall loved the show. And I’m glad I didn’t come in here until after I finished haha

I watched Nelly's ep a few days ago and it fucked me up. I haven't been able to go back to it since, but this weekend I'm thinking I might just binge it.

Thought this was absolutely incredible beginning to end. The casting, acting and direction were all amazing. Props on the editing too in how they play with timelines and also in how takes and monologues were allowed to play out uninterrupted.

As someone stated earlier, Episode 6 felt like watching a play in an amazing way.

Not so much straight horror in the sense of like The Nun as i anticipated but sad and beautiful and scary in a deeper sense, and for me all the better for it. Show me something more terrifying than someone with Theo's ability touching her siblings dead body after she committed suicide and the subsequent fallout.

Also, side note: I've lived in MA my whole life and spent a lot of time at UMass Amherst with friends and a sibling who went to college there and I've literally never heard it pronounced without the "H". Never got ribbed by any locals for it either. I have been made fun of by locals and family members from Maine for how I pronounce "Bangor" though.

Oh I was just commenting on my surprise at being completely clueless as to how people in the know pronounce Amherst, being realtively local and all.

In 3 episodes in now. It took til episode 3 for this to really hook me, maybe I'm just a bigger fan of Theo as a character than the others. Also took a couple episodes for the "who's this person again" factor to diminish

I found there were quite a few dimly lit scenes where it's hard to tell which wavy haired woman you're looking at...even later in the season

haha no doubt i felt the same way too. It took me a while to figure out how many kids there were and who's who. I guess they did a good job of casting to make them look like a family eh?

They deff look like family for sure. I guess it was easier for me to keep them separate since I recognized some of the actresses from other things.

Steven’s performance is the only one that irked me through most of the series, the only one i never totally bought until some of the better endgame stuff.

i want more of this though, real bad. serial fantasy is about to enter its golden age and i wish the same for horror.

I wanted more backstory to show why he was SO skeptical of everything. It just became really tiring to watch him be so awful to everyone about everything when we didn’t know that his experience was so different as a child.

I don't have face blindness or anything haha but I do struggle with keeping track of large casts

And it didn't help that it took me half of episode one to figure out that the kids and adults were the same people in different times

Finished this today. I still found the creepiest part of the entire series to be when Nell was dancing alone in like episode one or something. That chilled me more than the more obv ghost scares. Espesh cause it was such a quick shot with little context yet so it was more wtf.

I echo not being super sold on the ending. Idk what I'd have wanted instead but the stakes felt super high with the house the entire series and by the end they didn't anymore. And maybe that was the point idk? That they faced their fears and the house wasn't this big scary monster anymore, but then what about all the stuff with the house wanting the entire family like idk idk. Idk if I felt there was too much exposition at the end or what. I also found the dudleys reaction to the death of their daughter super weird espesh after the trauma of having a stillborn. Maybe because they understood the house I can suspend disbelief, but it felt like an odd reaction to just like pretend it didn't happen and it was weird how understanding they were. I also felt sad for Nell that the others got to be woken up by her and get another chance, but she never got that. And I was unclear about her husband dying cause she said the bent neck lady killed him so she killed him then?

Pretty sure he just died of normal causes but his death brought back that future for her because their life together had changed her course for the moment or something. Not really sure I buy that in a literal sense since whatever happened happened, but I think that’s the intention.

And I think her being who she was and not tied into the obsession with staying together in the house is why she got to help the others but didn’t have a voice for herself in the same scenario. Her mom wanted all of them together so of course she wouldn’t do anything to bring her back to life, but she could see through that future and wanted more for everyone else because she is the best. The twins deserved so much better and it makes my heart hurt.

tbh part of me wondered if the ending would be about the black mold. Like it driving them all mad or something and giving them issues into adulthood but maybe Steven had less in his room or something so he wasn't impacted as much. I'm glad it wasn't just that and there were actual ghosts. The way the mom ended up was so tragic. She was so close to getting away from the house even tho I knew her fate I was still like get out sis!!!
