I agree they are not a true hardcore band. They tow the line between metalcore and hardcore but it’s their politically charged lyrics that keep me invested. I think it’s pretty cool that they keep their feet immersed in both worlds. The tour they are on with Architects AND Counterparts is pretty sick.

I've seen them numerous times over the last decade, but not in the last few years. They were incredible most of the times I'd seen them, but there was a least one show that was just "off" - Hopefully they'll be in full form tomorrow.

Yeah, that's the show I'm seeing. Seems like a pretty solid triple bill.

They actually reversed headliners in Europe. They are doing the opposite for the states.

Wow, it sounds a lot like older Ringworm. Not bad!

Also, loving the Life of Agony vibes on the Cold World album.

Edit: That show apparently was in 2011. My perception of time must be off but that show felt like it took place so much longer than 7 years ago. But alas, there's Youtube video of a song from Close Your Eyes that night that I used to confirm that.

But I went down a wormhole from there and found video of Terror from the time they played a free show at my college during my freshman year with Down to Nothing. I remember this show explicitly because of how odd it was to have a hardcore show take place in the middle of a dining hall that I ate at 2-3 times a week during my first-year at school. Neat stuff.

2011 is probably around the time that I saw STYG and was disappointed in their set. I wonder if they had a lineup change or someone filling in or something, because I've seen them multiple times before and after that and they crushed. I'm interested to see how they perform tomorrow.

I'm confused. So who's headlining in the states?

    Architects

    STYG headlined in Europe

    Ohhhhhhh... okay.

I figured Architects were bigger over there. Guess not.

I think the tour was planned that way for exposure

Their last album got them some more street cred here in the states for sure.

The only country in Europe where STYG is even close to the popularity of Architects is Germany, but even there Architects play bigger venues these days.

I think it’s really cool how they are doing a reverse headliner tour to get the lesser known band more play time and exposure.

eh, I dunno how I feel about it.

I like the idea of giving the lesser known band more time and exposure, but unfortunately a lot of people will leave after Architects play.

I went to Silverstein/Tonight Alive recently and the venue CLEARED out after Silverstein played. Honestly, I probably would have left too, but since I didn't know Silverstein was opening, we arrived late and had missed half of their set, so we decided to stay for Tonight Alive just because.

You always run the risk of people leaving but it's still a cool idea to draw crowds and give a lesser known band the opportunity to gain some more fans.

Lightless Walk is probably my favorite heavy album of the last few years.

One of my favorite bands and the band I’ve seen the most with over twelve times now. Local to me in Southern California so they’ve always catered to the scene here. They pretty much only play songs from The Hope Division onward now so you won’t hear any songs from pre-2010 except This is More.

They’ve also had a solidified lineup since 2012 with the Diamond release. They don’t play This Is Hardcore or any of the other big hardcore fests around the states, but I would still consider them a hardcore band based off lyrics alone. They do a lot of interesting tours though where they’re clearly the only thing close to hardcore, but I think that’s what keeps the band going growing and strong.

I saw them in NYC with The Amity Affliction and they were the only “hardcore” band on the bill.

They’ve toured with Motionless In White, Blessthefall, Warped Tour a couple times and some other sceney metalcore band’s as well. I wouldn’t mind calling them a gateway hardcore band because if one kid walks away with a interest to look into hardcore from those lineups that’s a win

I think people also call them a hardcore band to try and distance them from bands like Asking Alexandria and The Amity Affliction. Like all those bands that call themselves "metallic hardcore"

I dig it, it's not their best album but it's good.
