Yeah seriously I'd be really interested in some of their stuff. I hope they make it happen!

black or cream p90 cover? I'm thinking of switching it to black so it doesn't stick out too much

I'm a sucker for cream. What kind of p90s?

My Jazzmaster has a cream pickguard with black pups and cream bridge saddles

The cream is the classic look. I think a black one might just disappear a bit on the dark scratch plate. I'd even be tempted to get a white one.

    Keep the cream!

Don't know if I ever uploaded pics of my Jazzmaster after I put a new pickguard on her

man you tell me to keep the cream but you also have the same witch hat knobs as me and i think the black pickups look great on that lol. Your guitar looks awesome.

they are lollar p90s. 5% overwound. really hot pickup

Haha, if I had a darker pickguard though I would put cream pickup covers on mine though. I actually bought cream pickup covers to put on when I switched the pickguard but I decided I liked when there was a contrast.
What about getting cream knobs and a cream pickup switch to match the p90?

Also - jealous of the Lollars. I've inly heard praise.

Edit: just realized you don't have a pickup switch haha. Was your guitar always the single bridge pup?

    Ugh Suhrs are so pretty.

@jorbjorb what kind of guitar is your Jazz? i edited my other post - I didn't even think about the fact it's a single pickup guitar when I mentioned the pickup switch. Haha

It's a Nystrum. They're kind of underground and I kind of impulse bought it 4 years ago when they were just starting out as a company. I still really like it but I think I could have gotten something a lot nicer from Fender considering the price. It is nice that I got to choose everything on it though just the grown up version of me wouldn't have bought it haha. A smaller company like this really does fine tune everything though and the quality of everything on it is top notch. It also sounds/plays really good too.

No worries, the one pickup usually throws a lot of people off. The funny thing is that Nystrum offered to add a second pickup/switch for only a 100 bucks and I said no. Kinda wish I got that as well but it's nice having a minimalist feel to this guitar.

I would love to get a Suhr too but they're so damn expensive.

I just looked at Nystrum (never heard of them before) and they're hardly affordable themselves. $3k for a Jazzmaster style copy with trem? Eek.

They're out of reach now for sure. When they were starting out it was half of that. And my guitar since it was super stripped down was even less. Still expensive though. I would never get one of them now. Seems like most fender style builders charge around 3k these days like fano, suhr, palir etc..

My next guitar will probably be something mexican built from fender. They're still built/sound great and are affordable.

It's hard to imagine what a T or S type guitar from one of these builders would have which justifies the huge cost. I get why people buy hand made, custom luthier instruments. It's nice to have something a bit different/unique/special, but a top end production Fender is around £1,500 now. A Suhr S type is £3000 (some go much higher). I sort of get where you start getting the big cost for something like a PRS, with all the crazy wood choices, body carving/figuring and the insane attention to detail with the finishing, but how does that work on something like an S or T type, where the body is comparably much simpler?

I have a G&L ASAT Tribute and I prefer it to pretty much any Fender-made Telecaster I've every played, and I picked it up for only $300 secondhand. I'd highly recommend giving G&L a thought if you're looking for Fender style guitars.

I actually just read an article in my local paper talking about how guitar stores are starting to struggle because now more than ever can you buy a really nice guitar for so cheap. Less and less people are spending money on the big budget product that guitar stores buy.

My favorite guitar store in my city is dying and they're trying to tell all their product because of it. For the past 6 months everything has been 30% off. I bought my Mexican Jazzmaster for $400 dollars because of it, and it seriously sounds awesome. Also so many people don't realize that when you're playing a Mexican in a store trying it out, if you get it properly set up WELL after you buy it, it'll sound and play even better than you thought.

Yeah. I've played a few mexican guitars that just felt bad and sounded bad. I've also played a few mexican guitars that are amazing. Even some Squires I've played are awesome. I find with fender is that they're not consistent from guitar to guitar. If you take your time and try a lot out you can always find a nice one for a good price though.

lol. Yeah I like the idea a few years ago because everyone had Les Pauls, Teles and Strats. I look around these days and it seems everyones playing an offset of some sort lol.

Yep I agree with that post about some mexi's sounding great and others not so great. And the part about it Squires too.

I'm a huge sucker for offsets tbh. I like jazzmasters a lot more than Jaguars. Honestly, jags still confuse me a bit. With all the switches, it can be a bit too much for me. I love jazzmasters.

Yooo i play a tele; what do you like about yours that a tele lacks? I was looking to get another tele look alike that I might mess with a bit. My current tele is also my first electric and I don't wanna do anything to it cause I'm sentimental lol

The biggest thing for me is the neck– I prefer it to any tele I've ever played by a mile. It's got a slightly thinner profile that makes a huge different to me, and it also has 22 frets, vs an average fender's 21 (which I utilize in several MG songs). The stock pickups are MFD rather than Alnico, which aren't for everyone and aren't meant to replicate a tele's sound to a tee, but I really like them. There's more clarity to them than alnico's, which to some people can come off as harsh, but they can always be switched out and, personally, I appreciate the detail they bring. I also have found the build quality to be better than Fender's in comparable (even some higher) price ranges. If I were to ever upgrade, I'd probably just go for a US made G&L over a Tele.

Thanks for this. I prefer my necks a little thinner, which is something that sold me on my tele when I got it (it was an impulse buy). I personally like the versatility of telecasters, but if those pick ups are harsher/maybe less twangy, I'm down for that too. This was rly helpful, I'll keep an eye out for one of these. I've been considering a G&L tele style guitar since seeing Hop Along live and hearing how incredible Joe sounded, and someone mentioned they thought he was playing either a G&L or a Suhr
