If I was making a top ten of Fallon's best work, Elsie may have three tracks on that list.

I've heard it at every show I've been to and every show I've seen online.

    What three ?

Black Betty, Blood Loss, and Go Tell Everybody

Ferris Wheel has a distinct "this is the first song we wrote for this record" sound to it and is EASILY the worst on the record. Like, I love the song and it's much better than Fallon's worst, but no other album of his has that obvious of a weak link to me.

Ferris Wheel is one of my favorite songs on the '59 Sound. Unfortunately they didn't play it when I saw them

Interesting. I love Black Betty for sure, also Ladykiller, Crush, Mary Ann, and a few others. It's a very very good album. But that's my #7 out of 7. I realize this is not a popular opinion and I'm ok with that.

really hard to say that there are any bad or "worst" songs on '59 Sound. If I had to toss my opinion in the ring and say my least favorite track from that record, or most skip-worthy, probably High Lonesome or Casanova.

I couldn't pick a bad song. That record is perfect

    also I guess for the sake of doing it;

    1 - '59 Sound
    2 - Handwritten
    3 - Elsie
    4 - American Slang
    5 - Sink or Swim
    5b - Senor & the Queen
    6 - Painkillers
    7 - Get Hurt

    1. The '59 Sound
    2. Handwritten
    3. Elsie
    4. Painkillers
    5. American Slang
    6. Get Hurt
    7. Sink or Swim

Though the only constants are the bookends. You could release a pretty great narrative driven EP out of just their closing tracks too. It's exceptional, really.

59 Sound is very very easily in my top 5 favourite LP's ever. It means so much on so many levels to me.

I purchased the '59 Sound from Amazon MP3 a few weeks after it came out for $1.99 or $2.99. Everyone on AbsolutePunk was raving about it, so I figured that was the best time to get it. I've been hooked ever since.

The '59 Sound marked the exact moment I said "let's see what else is out there" and started looking for new and different music. It may have been what drew me here haha.

My full Fallon ranking would be:

    1. The 59 Sound
    2. American Slang
    3. Handwritten
    4. Painkillers
    5. Elsie
    6. Get Hurt
    7. Sink or Swim

    Very hard ranking.

    1) '59 Sound
    2) American Slang
    3) Handwritten
    4) Painkillers
    5) Sink or Swim
    6) Get Hurt
    7) Elsie

Sink or Swim and Get Hurt are WAY WAY too good to be #5-6 but I can't move them up either. Speaks to the power of the man's catalog.

If agree on the first three points to some degree. With success comes pressure though. And sometimes fans and touring and interviews can become exhausting. But another factor you have to keep in mind is a guy being in a good place personally. Obviously he was dealing with some major stuff. I think as far is ive read he was getting divorced, and that at home life can slip over into professional life. Also, when a band member is related to an ex and other members have changes in their lives as well sometimes you need to separate to come back stringers. There is something about each Brian release I love. I can see Gaslight coming back after Brian's second album if the four members all want to. The fact that he still plays with Alex R and Ian shows the guys are still close.

Brian is terrible at describing his own music. He does so many sounds well that I can't imagine this being anything but awesome.

He IS terrible at describing his own music, although I think I remember him saying Painkillers was Petty-esque, so he was pretty close on that one. Although had he just said "it sounds like my songs through an Americana filter" that would have been a better description in my opinion. He massively overrated the supposed "difference" in the Gaslight albums. They all sound like Gaslight overall to me. He would go on and on about how DIFFERENT the new one was gonna be......never true in my mind.

Ferris wheel is easily one of the best on the album tho haha. Also, to yr last point: desire

And, hell, everyone else is gonna do it so

    1. American slang
    2. Get hurt
    3. The 59 sound
    4. Painkillers
    5. Sink or swim
    6. Handwritten

I haven't heard Elsie yet, or, if I have, it's been a long time since I've listened and I don't feel comfortable rating it

No shit? I follow this band very close and I NEVER heard that. If true........yeah, a divorce album about the bass player's sister is........awkward at best.

BF is pretty successful with keeping a lot of his public life out of the media - i'm pretty sure he has a kid too. At least I thought I read that in an interview or another post on this website.
