Has there been any word of B-Sides recorded for this? Hard to believe they only recorded 10 songs and I want them all !!

 

Brian made a comment somewhere basically saying they didn’t leave Blue Dahlia off this album. Which to me implies the existence of b-sides

 

So he's saying there are B-Sides but they aren't very good? He's been making that Blue Dahlia comment for years, he is well aware that people like that song and think it should be on the album.

 

It means they picked the best 10, nothing more or less.

 

Blue Dahlia and Have Mercy are two of their best songs and should've been closer/opener

Basic-ass take but Great Expectations, TQOLC (the fucking DRUMS!!) and 45 are all 'remember where you where when you heard this for the first time' kinda songs for me. None of these are their best or even my favourite but holy FUCK, the impact.

 

Idk about Mulholland being their best song but the run of 45-keepsake is top top tier

I disagree. Mortal Kombat is a very good game, but "The Backseat" is the best Gaslight Anthem song of all time.

 

I have only quite recently decided that yes indeed The Backseat is their best song. Previously I'd have taken Great Expectations or The 59 Sound or at one point Bring It On. But it's the ferris wheel part that puts The Backseat over the top.

 

I am thoroughly enjoying History Books - tried it on a whim and between that, TBS, and Closure in Moscow, it's all I've listened to since last Friday. I want more, but where should I go for the next full album listen? I'm more chronological in nature typically but also realize that's not always the best call depending on the artist.

 

Have Mercy is their best song.

 

Listen to The '59 Sound (genuinely an essential record, there's a reason why fans love it the way they do) and go either direction from there. I can't really recommend Get Hurt as much as I can the other 4 records before it. Some great stuff on there but it's the weakest album they've made imo.

 

I'd go 59 Sound and then American Slang (which is my favourite) for the band at its peak

 

Orphans is their best song.
