You’ve already released four singles, but what are some of the other songs that you feel best capture the spirit of History Books?

“Well, definitely the first song, Spider Bites. That almost captures the whole record. But I also think Michigan, 1975 also really captures a lot of the record. And The Weatherman does, for sure. I mean, there’s a lot. They all belong there, and this time I feel like we didn’t mess up and leave a Blue Dahlia [Handwritten B-side] off the record!”

Blue Dahlia isn't even the biggest b-side victim haha

Correct, that would be Have Mercy

I would have opened the entire album with Have Mercy.

should have opened and closed the album with have mercy

  7. Apparently my craziest take on this band is that none of the Get Hurt B-sides are better than anything on the album.

Lol I stand on a different, but similar hill.

We Did It When We Were Young is a perfect closer and She Loves You can stay a beloved b-side.

    Halloween stands up there, too.

Have Mercy only being on select versions is the real kick in the groin.

Have mercy is obviously great but I think blue dahlia is the platonic ideal of a gaslight song

My hot take is that Blue Dahlia is overrated, I don't really like the key change for the chorus

And here I was thinking a new album would release us from the curse of Get Hurt track list talk.

Blue Dahlia is a top 5 Gaslight song for me, maybe top 2-3

theres a new blink album with tom for the first time in over a decade and those folks have spent the last like 4 pages ranking the same albums they've done before.

This album continues a nice little lyrical throughline of Brian's around "weather." It's something I've been curious about for a while.

Wooderson: "I could never stand the weather, darling this heart is on fire"

No Weather: "All I wanted from you was no weather"

National Anthem: "I can't stand the weather, no I never liked the rain"

There's probably more I'm forgetting, but now we have The Weatherman, plus you could count Behold the Hurricane or There Is a Thunder Out in the Distance, his backing band The Howling Weather, etc. etc. Kinda cool.

I’m gonna try and wait til 3-4 listens to really comment but it definitely sounds like a Gaslight album to me. Not solo. Maybe Gaslight as produced by Katis - which it is duh - but those drums and guitars are all Gaslight

i mean there are definitely some things that could pretty easily be on Local Honey or Sleepwalkers, but Rosamilla is STANDING OUT in a bunch of these songs. this is as much a gaslight album as any other.

This is fantastic and definitely sounds like Gaslight. The production is perfectly fine and not as jarring hearing the album as a whole. Spider Bites, History Books and Michigan, 1975 are my early favorites. I’m so glad we have this band releasing music again after a long nine year layoff.
