I have a lot of mixed emotions about these new versions of Make It Happen and Five Years. I want to love the new versions. I love these songs because I’ve been listening to them for so many years. But the new versions just lack the raw emotion in the vocals compared to the old versions. Idk, it’s hard to describe how I feel. I’m conflicted.

Am I reading that as he didn’t know how to read until his 30s? Not trying to come off as dismissive or anything, i’m just genuinely curious

 

That's how I read it, I did remember reading at some point he had a lot of problems in school and whatnot as a kid.. it's certainly possible he didn't know how to, but I know nothing on the subject and don't believe any of us do haha. Isn't there a line in digital age about this?

 

I'm feeling outdone. It's my brain that can't spell and my heart that can't hold down the keys to type it out. But even if I can't read, life's a puzzle you see. I put together the things that come easy to me. I played with shapes for thirty years.

I never thought much about those lyrics but yeah I guess he did have a reading disability.

 

I assumed the line in the IG post as a random example of something a person might have difficulty overcoming later in their life, but yeah, those lyrics have me really rethinking that

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand it’s great to have new content from these guys, but not sure this is on par with any of their previous albums. Will need more listens to see if some of the non nostalgic stuff grows on me.
