It's definitely just phases, I'm not worried and it's happened before for sure. It's good to get some space and revisit earlier stuff that I did connect with.

I'm replaying Kitty now, does that count as DIY? album is underrated and I love it

Young Jesus falls in here tho!

Radiator Hospital, Bethlehem Steel, Strange Ranger, Slaughter Beach Dog, Infinity Girl... obviously DIY is broad but there's always great shit coming out. I just don't post in here often because the emo thread basically encompasses most bands I'd talk about

Unfortunately Young Jesus is the only one on that list that did anything for me. Strange Ranger disappointed me on my first two listens so I haven't returned to it. Slaughter Beach Dog was good but not very memorable. Meh :/

I don't think I've heard ten albums I like this year

I also am kind of like, so sick of this sound tbh and it feels sad bc I loved it three years ago

so vary sonically? if you're stuck in a musical rut look in other places. there is so much exciting stuff out there i truly feel like only it's the person who cant find something to blame

Is there really a certain "sound"? Related to these bands/labels, I think they spane a variety of genres. Not everything considered DIY sounds like Pile.

I have a little bit - mostly stuff from previous years - but my main sources of new music (what.cd collages and hanging w/ music people) are gone now and so it's pretty time consuming to dive into unfamiliar genres

I'm just bummed and complaining, don't mind me

get a streaming platform. find a thread or poster on here that posts stuff you like and read what they do. follow bands and see what they post. social media is important.

um honestly it's so divisive and I consider it a weirder interest of mine so I generally refrain from pushing it on people

however, Oneohtrix Point Never and Four Tet are two things I will push on everybody until the end of time

I'm over here on music overload, it's been a good year. I think I've listened to way more smaller DIY acts than any other year and that makes me happy.

The second thing has worked well in the past for like the indie/emo music circles but not so much when you don't like what you know and don't know what you'd like. I think what I'm gonna have to do eventually is just mass go through random new stuff till i find a niche that sticks then find and participate in a community around that niche. It's just gonna take a lot of time to implement and I won't be able to do it for a while.

Already on the other two tho

Also idk if this is true for anyone else but it's massively less enjoyable to listen to new stuff than it is to listen to stuff you know, there's a point around 5-10 listens where it stops being tiring and starts being rewarding

i don't know that, i listen to enough that anything that doesn't make an impact on me i feel very fine with tossing aside, i definitely don't give some stuff enough of a listen because of that but at the very least i never feel overwhelmed with listening to music

I’ve liked a lot of music this year but most of the indie/emo I’ve checked out hasn’t stuck with me.
