Emperor X is like a perfect middle ground between Mountain Goats and D Plan. That is probably why I love them so fucking much.

Also, I think Ellen & Ben is a better closer than Back and Forth

I had listened to it a while ago and it just didn't hit me until you and a few others pushed me into it more. Now it could well be my favorite album of all time.

I feel like Emeregency & I and The Ugly Organ are two of the most underrated yet massively influential indie rock albums of the past two decades

Yes yes it is I just listened to it twice. It's such a good concept album. Super dark and moody, chaotic yet melodic. The way they played around with song structure and build ups is really cool. I think you and I have gushed about TUO a lot together haha. I feel about it the way @cwhit feels about E&I probably. Just massively influential, super underrated, everyone on this site should love it

Both are albums I really like that I think are doing super interesting and cool things but neither of them completely hit the mark for me. The first three songs on TUO are incredible though, if only I liked the rest that much.

oh man I forgot about Ugly Organ, immense album

really love the post/meta approach of it - kind of ahead of its time maybe, but in the end, basically just a killer album

I need to get that vinyl

Yeah it's a very meta and clever album. I think both E&I and TUO inject some humor into their dark meta commentary on the lives of 20-30 somethings.

This site/AP loves/knows Cursive a lot more than d-plan though, hah. more embedded within this scene

This threads bumpin more than the Cursive thread ever has. They're both super underrated by pretty much everyone

Haha, true. Every time I listen to TUO or E&I I'm reminded of Is A Real Boy. IARB feels like it took ideas from both of those albums but never quite lived up to them

I really like that approach to art/life

no humor, no realness - I think

yeah, it's super art for people who create/are into art

    I love that

it's kind of like, if you want to write a good novel, you have to nod to creating a novel and reference the process
