This is the show I saw except they finished after Way Down. And given there were about 30 people in the audience I don't blame them. Still an an enjoyable show though!

What is this weird shaky voice thing AJ is doing on this life album? Is that a vocal effect or is he actively doing that?

I just heard it.. on where I want to be. When he says cause I'm already crazy... It really sounds like an effect. I dont think it be possible to do that naturally ? It is interesting. Only 2 songs in. I too wonder what that is now lol

just went and watched some fan videos from the show and it seems to be present there too which makes me think he uses a vocal processing unit of some sort live and it probably/maybe sounds cool in person but does not translate at all recorded (I’d say it’s extremely unpleasant and jarring when you notice it). shame bc otherwise they sound really tight and the roughness of his voice is kinda endearing for the most part to me.

Thats a bummer as I too think it sounds great on the whole, but I never heard an effect like that. On starting over its really cranked up and almost chops up the notes he sings. What do I search to find the vids from the shows?

Actually just randomly checked random shows from the past 2 years and I can hear the vocal effect on every recording. I hope they consider dropping that effect. Its way to much choppy vibrato on every word ;-(

I heard it too the last few shows i went to. Though he was just channeling his inner post malone. I dont love it either, but im so happy to have a surprise live album.

Live album has too much S/T and not enough WP and MN lol.

So here’s something: my favorite three albums by them are RFTS, S/T and Mother Nature. This setlist strikes me as absolutely perfect. I understand that no one else in the world feels this way, but I certainly seems to be a set perfectly curated for me. Which I’ll admit feels nice.

I REALLY wish they played more WP tracks. I love the first and last records a lot but WP just means a lot to me and it's a shame I never hear those songs live anymore.

I feel the same. Never got into WP or GR as much as the others.

Is it an effect or something a.j was doing?

I cannot get over the fact that it sounds like AJ is running over bumps for the tracks on the Live Album, this does not sound good. Love this band, but what in the world is that sound?

Yea im guessing its some sort of effect, deff not natural vibrato to my ears. I always try to get a good look at all the band members rigs and pedal boards when i go to their shows and just assumed it was something the FOH engineer at my local venue was controlling. Maybe they bring along their own sound guy now with rack units to run some things like vocals through. AJs not controlling any effects when he plays live, he only has a tuner for his bass on the ground in front of him.

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Is it the same effect that’s present on Stand Atlantic’s new record? e.g. Jurassic Park

The strange thing is this is the first time I ever noticed it really. I've seen them live twice but the vocals were a little muffled where I was standing. If you listen to starting over on this live album the effect is so strong its wobbling the words so bad. Im a huge fan as you guys are and mean this as a constructive criticism but they really should drop that effect. The weird thing is I went back to some 2013 shows on youtube and its there too! It is not on the 2011 shows.
People are noticing on Facebook as well:

It sounds like he’s singing into a fan. Happy to have it though, and happy that they’re donating the proceeds to a good cause

  19. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen this band (20+ easily) and I’ve never heard anything like that from him lol.

Maybe to a certain extent on some songs. But not all of them.

When I saw them in Miami right after WP came out it was fantastic. One of my best concert experiences. The last two times I’ve seen them I was pretty disappointed.

  22. i definitely hear it. It seems (to me at least) it happens live primarily during RFTS songs and self titled tracks. That’s when it’s most noticeable

It's weird because sometimes it just sounds like a vocal quiver but then other times it sounds like a strange glitchy digital thing. Definitely notice it a lot on the new live album. Some of it is kinda brutal at times but I still enjoyed it overall <shrug>

I am a massive fan of the Dangerous Summer, and have been since 2009. But after giving this a listen and noticing the same strange warble, this live album just isn’t for me at all. I’m excited for what they do next, but I really hate that vocal thing, and it’s a hard listen because of that.

I wonder if in a crowded room you don’t notice it, and maybe it’s there to help cut through the noise somehow. But then on a recording like this, you don’t have all that, and it’s really obvious.
