Man I’ve been digging the heck out of Dark Eyes. It’s a better album, I think

Dude a lot of their tracks have heavy Radiohead vibes. Also! You should listen to the album One Big Particlar Loop by Polyenso. heavily Radiohead inspired

Round 2 thoughts! Thanks to @Drewski for these recommendations!

Creeper - Eternity In Your Arms

    EternityInYourArms.jpg

"Some days I lace my coffee with poison just to feel the hit and I've been cheatin' death for years."

Duuuuude, this band actually exists?! Okay, prior to @Drewski recommending this album, I literally found out about them earlier last week because I stumbled across a youtube video recommendation after watching an Alkaline Trio video. The artwork to this album caught my attention. I had only listened to two songs because I had to leave, but I liked what I heard and later forgot about them. Then @Drewski mentioned them for this club. So I would say this is fate.

This album RULES. This band will save rock and roll. Any fan of Alkaline Trio, The Misfits, or "Horror Punk" (probably even Avenge Sevenfold) should check this album out. The vocals have hints of Matt Skiba and, in some parts, Laura Jane Grace. The songs are so well crafted and catchy. Stylistically they're all over the place, but they make it work. Punk, Hardcore Punk, Metal...Its all there for your listening pleasure. This will be a yearly listen around Halloween for me. Really wish I found out about this album earlier!

Favorite Tracks: Darling, Hiding With Boys, Down Below, Suzanne

Sløtface - Try Not To Freak Out

    a3189960518_10.jpg

Paramore who? Yeah, I just said that. For reals though...I wish Paramore took pages from this band's book. Even the lead singer's name is Haley! I am 100% ignorant to this band. I had no idea what to expect when I started listening. This was a fun listen and got me through the my last two work days. This band just seems like they would have fantastic live shows too. Well-rounded musicians (especially the guitarist and that tone!) and Haley's vocal just slay this debut LP. If you're looking for amazing female vocals...look no further because Sløtface is here and it sounds like they will be punching through walls with this album. Front to back this album just keeps you engaged and thats rare for new(er) bands. This was a VERY refreshing listen for me.

Favorite Tracks: Sun Bleached, Nancy Drew, Magazine

So good. I saw them live last december and they brought a string quartet out for 5-6 songs, pretty sure narrow margins was one of them.

Yeah that Pat Metheny album definitely isn’t the most accessible jazz album out there I’ve realized haha but thanks for at least giving it a shot!

I’m glad you’re loving Speedy Ortiz though! Your thoughts and feelings about foil deer are basically the same as mine. The record really is such a jam. Also, all your favorites songs are the same as mine ha

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Ah dudddeeee, hell yeah! I made both these recs based on your Pennywise avatar and a light browsing of your post history so I'm glad I nailed this one.

Personally, I was like "what is this bullshit?" the first time I heard that Creeper album but now it may end up in my top 10 for this year. To your point, it really does cover a crazy range of styles and emotions and does so really well.

I'm amazed Sløtface isn't bigger at this point, but I guess it's still early. Love how they incorporate fun flourishes throughout this debut (ie: the horns on "Pitted"). If you dug this, I really recommend checking out their EPs, because those have some of my favorite songs by them ("Take Me Dancing" and "Sponge State").

    Round 1

Alright so @Erwin89 recommended me Tsunami Bomb's The Definitive Act and Descendents' Everything Sucks. I'll write about them both together cause I think they're both paired together really well as recommendations.

Now my knowledge of punk/rock/guitar driven music in the 90s/early 2000s is quite limited aside from the usual big names, so these recommendations were very much needed. Listening to Everything Sucks (1996) I could feel Descendents' older 80s punk sound leak into the 90s and how it bridged two eras of music. But with Tsunami Bomb's The Definitive Act (2004) whose prominence was in the early 2000s, breaking up in 2005, I could hear the influence change from the 90s to the 2000s, becoming poppier and "emo" beginning to resemble the sound of younger bands that formed during that era that I am more familiar with, the bands I first listened to in the music scene.

I feel the strength of these records lies in the drumming. I almost forgot how fun that fast paced style of punk rock drumming can be. The kinda drumming that carries a band, while guitarists lay down some power chords. I don't mean that in a bad way, as all parts of these bands come together for the purpose of the song they craft. It's just that the drums shine through the most./endrambleItried.

    Stand Out Tracks:

The Definitive Act - A Lonely Chord, Negative One to Ten, My Machete

Everything Sucks - Sick-O-Me, She Loves Me, I Won't Let me, Thank You

I'll do my picks now from @EmmanuelSCastle

    1. Chumped - Teenage Retirement

I've been listening to a lot of acts with a similar sound recently, so this was a welcomed listen. It was a fun album to listen to in the background, and definitely had a lot of energy which made it a fun album to listen to at the gym. I really like Anika's voice, it sounds so similar to another popular artist but I can't put my finger on who. On the flip side, I really dislike the male vocalist's voice.....not sure why they included that song. I saw they were from Brooklyn so I was excited to see if they'd be playing home anytime soon....and then bummed to see that they've broken up lol. My favorite songs from this were "Hot97 Summerjam" (I would always go to this show, loved the reference) and "The Pains of Being."

I had recommended Emmanuel Camp Cope's album, and judging by this rec I'm assuming they'll love CC. But knowing they like Chumped makes me think of a few great recommendations to give them next round.

    2. Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

Sorry, this one is not for me at all hahaha. I'm just not a fan of this kinda old school punk rock. I used to be, back when I was 14-16 I was listening to all sorts of music similar to DK, but sadly it was just a phase for me. Which is weird because I love Against Me!, and listening to this DK album I can for sure here the influence, especially in the way Laura Jane sings.
But yea, this one was a thumbs down for me, but I'm sure the 15 year old me would have loved it haha.

Hell yeah dude, glad you liked Chumped. With you that the one song, I think "Coffee", is p weak compared to the rest, but I don't hate it. I'm actually really sorry that I didn't mention they had broken up haha...that bums me out every time I remember so I think I just repressed it.

Bummed you weren't super into Dead Kennedys but I was aware when I suggested it that it might be a big swing and a miss. I kind of kicked around the idea of suggesting you their second album -- it's like hardcore but also weirdly surf rocky and a bit jazzy in the rhythms and in general better than the first -- but the first has the anthems which I thought might have a better chance. Ah well, cool that you gave it a try!

I'll have my thoughts up later or tomorrow depending on how the day goes.

That Katie Ellen album is pretty great although it's a bit of a departure from the pop-punk sound of Chumped, it's got more of a singer/songwriter, indie type thing going on but well worth checking out.

this was fun, and some of the songs kinda sounded like Kylie Mingoue which you know that I'm into, it was a little long though and I'm still not sure how I feel about that cover of I Was Made For Loving You by Kiss

    Hello Seahorse
Denise's voice is so pretty, I had never heard of them before but the second I heard it I was like oh this is for me, no particular standout track but this was really pleasant and dreamlike
