Their Ruby Redbird is just about everywhere here in Georgia.

That one is pretty good. Lately their limited stuff has been pretty hit or miss for me. The Bock is a dependable beer to order at restaurants and bars if I don't want to spend too much.

Tried the birthday edition Shiner yesterday and still not sure how I feel about it

It's gotta be better than the chocolate one last year. I thought it was decent after the first bottle, but trying to finish that case was hell

I loved that beer! Great chocolate flavor without being cloyingly sweet.

I'm basically in the same boat as you on that one haha. Decent but painful to finish.

It was way too sweet for my taste. It's probably be fine to have every once in a while, but buying a case was a mistake for me

Haven't had this year's birthday beer, but it's in the pantry. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Picked up a bottle of Stagger saurus by Staggeringly Good Beer. They have some really great labels.

You're talking about this one right? I didn't find it sweet it all, just a nice chocolate flavor like a good chocolate cake.

Yeah, although I never saw it in cans. The chocolate flavor was overwhelming, like it had chocolate syrup added after brewing (not sure what the process was). There are a lot of chocolate stouts where the flavor is subtle. This is not one of them.

Most stouts already have subtle chocolate flavors. If you're calling it a chocolate stout, go big or go home! >-p

Agreed! My favorite chocolate stout right now is actually the Sam Smith one, and it's pretty darn cheap which is great

My favorite chocolate beer right now is this bourbon barrel aged barleywine: Our Beers -

And this was pretty damn good too (5 Rabbit Cacao):

Yeah those both sound really great, a chocolate barleywine sounds nuts

Thankfully it's only 9% so not as intense or boozy as it could be.

9% is like, where things start getting really good.

Speaking of ABV, what's everyone's opinion of lower ABV stouts? I'm usually not a fan of them. I think they usually taste like they are lacking something. Not always, but I'm often a bit wary of stouts that come in below 7% or so.

I prefer most of my beer to have a higher abv%, haha.

It depends beer by beer. Session IPAs are critical for easy drinking during the summer without losing taste

I've grown such a liking for high ABV, it's dangerous. But Anything form like 12-20 is just calling my name. Curl up with a bottle and take a lil nap

9% is decidedly low for a barleywine, especially a modern one.

And there are great stouts at below 7%. Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro is 6% and one of my favorite beers. Guinness, Murphy's, and Beamish are all in the low 4's and are excellent dry stouts.

All very solid examples of low ABV stouts

Music, a steady riot in my soul. Prestigious

Going to a concert tonight, so we're heading to Cycle. It's basically across the street from the State (where we're going) and still walking distance from Jannus (another place we regularly go), so it's definitely become a welcome addition to our concert going experience. I know most people think of Cigar City when they think of beer in Tampa Bay (or Florida in general), but Cycle really is the best we have in my opinion.
