we talked about the Super Deluxe a while back in this thread, but the John Glyns mix is SO BAD

but yes it’s awful. he picked terrible takes and included so much momentum-slaughtering studio dialogue

it's also from a deteriorated / secondary tape source and not an original master IIRC too

doesn't help the (already) shoddy sounding mix

Spector takes “Across the Universe” from well-meaning nonsense to beautiful, sweeping poetry. It needs that extra bit.

eh i think the weakest thing about the spector “let it be” is the way “across the universe” appears

otherwise (ok also the absence of “don’t let me down”) spector let it be >>> the other ones, imo

Naked 100% my preferred just because of the immensely superior tracklisting

whoever decided "Let It Be" should be in the middle of the album between two filler tracks, or "Get Back" should be the closer, was out of their fucking mind (in other words: was Phil Spector)

My single strongest Beatles opinion is that the album version of “Let It Be” is the only acceptable one, and George’s solo on the single version is embarrassing in comparison

I cannot stand the solo on the original album version haha. it's so out of place, feels like they just cut it in from a totally different song

It’s one of the best solos of all time. Just all guts. The absolute crescendo of the gospel passion of the song.

if i made a list of 20 harrison solos i don’t think either version would be on it. wtf.

everyone I've ever talked to prefers the single solo lmao, I had no idea there was anywhere that was considered the weird take. the internet, folks!

I feel like it is the exact opposite - Spector took "Across The Universe" from beautiful poetry and turned it into terrible sounding nonsense. I honestly always just thought I hated that song until I heard the Naked version and then tracked down other versions of it.

Which "Let It Be" guitar solo is the jarringly loud one, single or album version???

    re: George's guitar playing

one of the most interesting bits in the new doc series was when George was talking about how he isn't able to just improvise in songs during the verses/choruses like clapton and is used to just doing his thing during a solo section

it's wild how rock/pop guitar playing shifted so much over a short period of time

I'm sure someone has written books on this topic but I had never heard it talked about in those terms before

also had to laugh when lennon was non plussed by the discussion and just said "that's jazz man" lol

harrison might be a top 5 guitarist ever for me.

maybe the most interesting slide player, if for no other reason than refusing to play slide like every other person in the world

It has half a million views in the first 10 hours, so hopefully the song is finding new fans, that's all we can ask I guess
