Even better the second time around.

unfortunately, despite having maybe 15 people in a large theater, two groups talked throughout the entire 3 hours. Just god awful human beings. Some people should not be allowed to leave their homes except for medical reasons.

thankfully didn’t ruin my overall experience of the film for the second time, but it was obnoxious to the point I actually shushed them at one point. I never do that. It’s usually not worth potentially escalating something.

anyway, this time it felt like it went quicker for me.

you guys were 100% right about the Batman/riddler scene at Arkham. Riddler does not know Bruce and Batman are one in the same.

rafter fight still slaps and remains my favorite sequence.

the closing narration hit me harder this time. The scar lines hit me good.

I got a good laugh at the talkers during the Joker scene. When they showed the close up of him they all said, “that’s Two-Face!” So silly.

loved paying attention to more of the smaller details, like hearing the suit when he moves and such.

can’t wait to own it and just watch it repeat.

I know when I think of Batman, I expect it to be like Sherlock and Knives Out. What a tool.

The biggest problem with this movie is that neither Batman nor Gordon, at any point, had a monologue about donut holes

I loved how much Gordon and Batman interacted and how they interacted with one another. I felt the chemistry between them.

8.5/10 from me. Definitely a chance it sneaks up to a 9 on repeat viewings. Really enjoyed it, some of the scenes were so well done...it definitely dragged a bit and the big set piece at the end felt rushed, but I'd probably put it above Batman Begins and below The Dark Knight (haven't watched TDKR in a while).

Sadly, spent half the film triggered by the fact Zoe Kravitz in those wigs looked identical to a girl I briefly dated but now makes me anxious at the thought of her haha.

Once I own this I think I i'll watch the Mitchell crime scene scene to the end of Something In The Way fairly often.

The 500 followers comment didn’t really bother me. I took it more as he had almost 500 fringe types in his community rather than him just having “subscribers”. Idk, weird detail in a 2022 movie.

Felt like I was watching a graphic novel come to life with the way this was shot. And not in the goofy Zach Snyder slow mo way, but in how each shot was framed. Close ups, interesting angles, great use of light and shadow, depth of field to highlight character traits.

Think the 3rd act with the Riddler would have been better if he wasn't arrested pre sea wall. That felt like a Nolan copy / paste from TDK. But other than that, adored this movie.

I enjoyed it but I'd still put this below all of the Nolan films. It just didn't have that "superhero" vibe, it felt very much like a mob movie with Batman dropped in. Zoe was reallyyyyy good as Selina!

Also, that ending with the Riddler in Arkham, that had to be a re-shoot right? It felt so weird to try and fit that into the film.

    Batman isn’t a superhero. He’s a crime fighter. A detective. Worlds greatest.

I think the problem with adapting Batman is that the mob and street crime elements are very much a defining part of Batman more than the "superhero" angle.

His major and most well-known villains like Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and Two-Face are very much all regular people with irregular habits, but still very grounded in reality. Even characters like Poison Ivy and Scarecrow can and/or have been adapted in a grounded setting without incorporating their more fantastical elements.

This is what I think attracts a lot of directors to the character, and also where I think a disconnect happens when you start talking about characters like Clayface, Man-Bat, and Killer Croc, where you either have to make huge changes to who and what they are, or ignore their existence entirely.

Since Reeves had been talking about Mr. Freeze, I hope he'll be the director to walk both worlds. I would love to see a grounded Batman that still has to deal with supernatural and outlandish elements, but in a way that still treats it like just part of the reality that he's in.

Depends on your definition of superhero. I’d agree Batman is a superhero.

I need to know when this is coming to vinyl. Also, does anyone know if the screenplay is available online anywhere?

Modern MCU production style. I felt like Nolan had a littlr bit more of this, while still maintaining the gritty real-world reality of Batman. Also, i think I would have enjoyed this more if the villain wasn't named the Riddler, that interpretation completely threw me off.

Don’t you think defining superhero to the MCU is a little silly? I love the MCU. They’ve pulled off what nobody has done before or has since tried. But defining the vibe of a superhero movie based on the MCU just feels like you’re purposefully trying to not like anything but the MCU. I don’t think you are, but it’s a weird take.

Idk if comparing this to Marvel is beneficial when they’ve been pretty Copy/Paste for a while now. They’re charming in their own way. I’m pretty glad we got a movie focused on being a movie rather than trying to fall into a specific category.

I’m in the minority that finds superheroic Batman boring unless he’s also campy, so I’m glad this was less that and more gothic. That’s a big part of why I prefer this take to all the Nolan films, and also these days prefer Burton’s take more than Nolan’s.

Sorry if it came off that way, not a DC vs MCU guy. Just think that Marvel created the format and for better or worse DC copied that format to middling results. It's just different for me when I see a movie in the genre that bucks what Marvel is doing. The Batman is def on tier with the latest Spiderman, but they don't even feel like the same genre.

I have a weird view on the Burton films. I think Keaton was solid. I thought Pfeiffer was great, too. I do not like Nicholson at all as the Joker. Devito is okay, I guess, but not a big fan of it. The Prince songs and such in the first are awful to me, nails on a chalk board bad. Despite nostalgia I’m just not a big fan of them. I don’t hate them, and I get some enjoyment from rewatching them, but they’re never going to be the Batman movies I go to when I am in need of a Batman fix.
