Haven't seen it yet so I have no room to talk but I'm a little bummed to hear that they go for pure realism again, even more than the Nolan movies. That initial teaser trailer from years ago put the idea in my head that it would take the Arkham approach of still being dark and gritty but still putting the fantastical elements in and just rolling with it, and I got extremely excited for that

Still can't fucking wait to see this probably next week

Even though it was already long, I feel like it needed a scene at the end of Bruce Wayne coming out to financially support the new mayor or reclaiming ownership of the Renewal fund. It felt almost like an origin for Bruce Wayne stepping out of the shadows to help not only as Batman, but the final button on it was missing, though that could easily happen at the start of the sequel.

“Thumb drive” was great. The riddles mostly hit the sweet spot of what I’d want out of a Riddler in a modern Batman film.

Those camera contact lenses pushed about a step and a half too far into sci-fi territory for the kind of movie this was otherwise. But, one of my friends derisively called it grimy Tony Stark tech, and I dunno, “grimy Stark” sounds like something Batman would do, lol.

The Renewal Fund plot threaded the needle enough in addressing that whole stupid recurring “why doesn’t Bruce simply fix Gotham with his money!?” Twitter talking point without getting too into that dumbass Cinema Sins style thought process.

I'm seeing this tonight in IMAX with lasers? I don't know what that means but it was twice the price of a regular ticket

yeah he fell victim to the typical character trope of hearing one thing from one person and taking that as truth and just running with it.

Also, listening through the score this morning (i couldnt stop thinking about the music and sound in this movie) and its apparent that Michael Giacchino loves a good pun - "Don't Be Voyeur with Me", "Crossing the Feline", "Funeral and Far Between" to name a few, but "Highway to the Anger Zone" really got me.

I feel like saving both Joker and Court of Owls for the final movie of the trilogy could be a solid move, even though each of those are enough villain for their own movie. I just don't need to see Joker in the next movie and I feel like Court of Owls would be the logical ending to a trilogy that The Batman started. Would very much prefer Mr. Freeze seeing as we haven't had a decent live action portrayal yet.

incredibly nervous about seemingly everyone saying, whether they loved it liked it or were underwhelmed, that the runtime seems like a slog. but i’m still excited. most i’ve anticipated a blockbuster since dune.

Some good quotes from Reeves here about Barry. Can't wait to see that deleted scene on the blu-ray I assume.

I feel like they kind of need to do Hush in a sequel just because of how it was set up in this one. They'd obviously have to rework his origin story but that would be fine.

considering the movie very clearly portrays Batman/Bruce as a sympathetic tragic figure, I truly don't know what movie that fuckin moron watched

    Things have changed.

One thing that really fell flat to me was Alfred getting the bomb and ending up in the hospital. He'd been in like, two or three scenes before that? I felt he had very little emotional relationship established with Bruce outside of the cufflinks (lol), so I just didn't feel anything in that moment. That scene would have worked better in movie 2 or 3 when the audience has had time to get to know him and care for him as a character.
