In episode 4, you’re spot on that Mae decides she’s going to turn herself in because she wants to be with Osha and can see a path to it now. She only joined up with the Stranger (Qimir) because she thought he could help her get revenge on the Jedi for killing Osha. With Osha still alive, she sees a new path where she can get what she truly wants (Osha) which is something her master can’t provide. Once she realizes her master is there at the end of 4/beginning of 5, she feels trapped and wants to just escape because she knows her master is too powerful for the Jedi. Her and Jecki fight because Jecki doesn’t know about her change of heart and wants to bring her in and Mae just wants to get as far away as possible. When Osha rejects her, she is now falling back into her want of revenge against the Jedi now for turning Osha against her too, specifically Sol. In 6, the Stranger tells Osha that he thought Mae wanted more than just revenge but he was wrong. I also thought she may be trying to get back on his good side by killing Sol, but when sneaking up on him at first, I’m pretty sure she has a weapon so she no longer is trying to complete his challenge which is the opposite of what he wanted.

If this is just rambling (admittedly very likely), then I also suggest Star Wars Explained’s videos because Alex and Molly do a great job of recapping and providing context for each scene in both the smaller and wider stories.

I came to the same conclusions as you @Dodge725. I feel like we would all be rambling if we tried to explain this show from beginning to end — there’s a lot of sloppy writing. It stinks because I really like a lot of the broader concepts this show presents. I hope it gets a second season, and the show tightens things up a bit. It’s like equal parts rushed and languid. Very weird.

 

I think this show's biggest problem is the pacing. I cannot believe we are already at the penultimate episode. They spent the first four episodes meandering, and now that I am finally at the point where stuff is starting to get some momentum and the show is growing on me we only have one week left.

 

i think the pacing also puts the importance of the story at a disadvantage. this has more or less been advertised as our earliest on-screen introduction to the infiltration of the Jedi Order by the Dark Side, and you would imagine that the show would treat a consequential event like that as more important to the overall story. i know it's a waiting game and that could still happen in the next two episodes, but this show currently feels like a more self-contained story about power dynamics and family that uses the threat of the Dark Side as a backdrop. i'm fine with that and it ultimately having lesser ramifications for the PT, but it probably should've been better advertised if audiences were expecting something more consequential for the whole timeline. again, i could be wrong, but i agree that there's still a ton of ground to cover.

 

Given that tonight is the penultimate ep and another ep directed by Kogonada, it's safe to assume we'll flash back to Brendock and find out what happened for good chunk of the runtime.

 

Yea, I’m assuming full flashback episode or maybe book ended by present day.

haven't had the chance to watch since we have company over. gonna hop out until tomorrow evening.

 

It was decent. I wanted more ideological clashing and discussion about the vergence/force stuff, but it was cool to see Kelnacca in action.

With only one episode left, I wonder how much we'll learn about Qimir in the finale. Feels like a lot already has to be covered. How Mae survived and eventually teamed up with Qimir and resolving their relationship. Osha finding out what happened on Brendock and resolving her relationship with Sol. Resolving Osha/Mae, Osha/Qimir, etc. Unless it's just gonna be left open for S2?

 

How are they going to wrap this up in one episode?

 

parts of tonight's episode were not good. anything with those child actors (especially Osha) is yeesh, and I felt like a lot of the dialogue and decision making were just not great

That might actually be my favorite episode of the series. Sol, my dude. Get your shit together.

 

Huh. I had absolutely no hopes for this episode, but it resolved a few issues I had with the series. AND I somehow like Indara now.

• What was Mother Aniseya trying to do with her force smoke thing? Was she going to take over Mae? Why?

• The way Indara killed those witches was gnarly!

• Is Koril still out there or is she dead now too?

• The twins being one consciousness split into two bodies is certainly interesting.

• I’m still curious how the twins were supposed to lead a bunch of women. I got the impression that they were just going to be vessels in the end and all the witches would pour their essence/souls into them?

• That Force metal detector was hilarious though.

 

Midichlorians have been mentioned a ton in Bad Batch and Mando in recent years. Them being mentioned here in this context makes total sense.

 

Yea, I’m not exactly sure what she was doing. It kind of sounded like Mae and OSHA were to be sacrificed in some way. But I’m not clear in what way.

 

Any chance this ends with Osha and Mae doing the DBZ fusion dance and combining into one lol?

Midichlorians might be silly but they're here to stay. It's G-canon.

 

Yeah, I definitely got a seedy, malevolent vibe from the witches this episode. Yet, Aniseya seemed to be letting Osha go.

I liked how the witches may be bad, yet the Jedi turned out to be your run of the mill shitty cops. I find this more interesting then either super pristine, perfect Jedi or straight up evil Jedi.

 

This 2nd flashback episode didn't feel like it gave us enough satisfying answers to feel worth taking yet another break in pacing from the present day story right when it was getting good. Especially with only one episode left to wrap things up. They could have given this season just one single flashback episode that showed both POV and it would have made little difference.

Some of the acting and dialogue were real bad again. The lightsaber fight with Kelnacca was really cool and well done though.

Sol is reading very creepy to me

I feel like they should have cast actual identical twins for the young Mae and Osha. Sol not being able to tell them apart aside from Mae's marking felt ridiculous. They look completely different.

I like the "this planet was made uninhabitable from a Hyperspace disaster 100 years ago" shout out to the plot of the High Republic novels.

I hope this "why is the force mysteriously creating/manipulating life?" stuff is leading to where I think it's leading Darth Plageious and isn't just coincidental

Or the Clone Wars

Or the latest season of Mando

so I didn't know Midichlorians had been mentioned so much, just caught me off guard

Great episode but also no idea how they wrap this up

 

Okay, well, you should def watch Rebels, Clone Wars and Bad Batch because they're great.

And I like that they've pivoted to M-Count mostly so they can say it without saying it.
