Jacksonville isn’t worth the cheap cost either, at least if you’re renting. Hence why I’m done here.

I can maybe see the argument a little better if you’re buying though, cause downtown got so depressed during the subprime mortgage crisis, that very decent houses in my neighborhood are still like only $125-$150k while basically every other major city is rapidly inflating to a “floor” of $400-$700k in all low crime neighborhoods

I did thank you having just ate DQ food what do we think is better that or Sonic? Both have that burger and ice cream thing going on, personally I think Sonic's food is better but DQ has better ice cream.

How the hell did my Jimmy Eat World - Futures disc get so fucked up just sitting in a CD binder? “Pain” is the first song with no skips, fuck that I’ve already overheard that one on the radio & on Madden lol.

Yeah kinda, wish I could have bought a house when we first moved out here before everybody else moved out here haha. Just renting now probably going to move bacl to El paso in a 2 or 3 years. Need to find a job soon though do we can start paying off shit and saving while making Austin money before I go back and take a pay cut. Only moving back because thats where most of my family is and want my kids to be around their grandparents.

I think DQ is better overall than sonic. Neither has great food though. I'd rather get food from somewhere else then get dessert from there.

And to think, our new place costs the same as our old one in Jax haha

@littlejohn I understand that. It doesn’t even take family and friends. All my family and friends left and I still moved back to Jax out of hometown nostalgia.

I realized after the first 2 years that was a shallow feeling though and for another 2 years I felt stuck because the economy is so weak. Serving jobs are DEAD half the year here, while there are weird expenses that make it hard to save money. Things like: insurance is VERY expensive (most natural disasters in the country, worst drivers in the country, etc). Winter heat bills are expensive - Florida homes have poor insulation, since it’s warm most the year. Etc

Best thing about being here has been, $950 to rent a 3 bedroom house, 5 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from the beaches. I never deal with traffic or go to the lame suburban sides of town, and I was able to have all my loud music gear in here and play at 2 AM if I wanted. I was able to host band practice here and also get some quality practice in myself.

That’s how I learned drums & bass, and that’s also how I could afford to tour on restaurant server income to get experience & lessons. I’m a way better musician and performer now, and I can play every instrument well enough to accomplish studio goals by myself without a band. That was my big goal.

Another goal was to see the Jaguars a lot, which I have. Will always be in love with that team because I’m just that damn loyal.

But ultimately, it sucks. There’s like ONE culture hotspot in town and the rest of it is just commercialized chains. The job market sucks. The city is very slow about propping up new entertainment and nightlife so it gets very stale. You can’t take mass transit or walk anywhere, need a car to live basically.

And the people suck, it’s very two faced. “Pretend we like everyone but talk shit about 95% of them.” “Don’t talk about politics to be ‘polite’, but really it’s about hiding our racist / sexist views.” “I get clout acting like I support local art / music and new venues, but really I get drunk at the same bar every weekend and only see a show if it’s 3+ bands I already know for less than $6.”

Plus hardly anyone is ambitious, no one is going anywhere in life, and that’s contagious, people lose years of their lives stuck in the same routines into their 30s. And I could feel that starting to happen to me so it’s time to go.

Our new place is a kinda dinky apartment with no dishwasher, a tiny stove and one sink lol. We definitely are making a sacrifice in terms of home comfort. Jax is cancelled, but I love my house itself and I’m kinda sad I can’t live like this in Atlanta.

 

I always hate when customers lie and say “no, this worked/happened last time” look buddy we’ve never had Apple Pay here

Another customer last night was mad I wouldn’t sell them popcorn and they said “the lady up front in box office just put my free popcorn on my card right now!” Uh no she didn’t, we’ve been closed for 20 minutes now

Goodbye awesome backyard. Maybe I’ll have a backyard again once I complete coding certifications and get a salaried data admin job. This was the best I could do as a restaurant worker.

 

Shut it, nerd. I've had a functioning dishwasher at one place in like eight years haha. It'll be fine.

 

On the bright side - goodbye cat poop everywhere and the looming threat of that fatass raccoon falling out of a tree onto you.

 

I really don't think we'd move back if there was no family there, don't like the desert, or the mountains or the weather or anything really.
