  2. To be fair a good chunk of the self-titled was cut from similar cloth and it displayed very little of the experimental bent on their last two records. But while there's a logical case to be made for the same band making ABIIOR, this new track is the most startlingly different thing they've ever done because nobody could have seen it coming.

  8. My favorite The Used story is John Feldman writing those albums and then being like "well, shit, this is getting popular, bet I can do it even better if I get some young model looking dudes and a singer that I don't have to put through all this autotune" ... and that's how we got Story of the Year.

I was really into Page Avenue when I was younger but never checked out their other albums. Based on the titles it seems like they were LOST fans.

  13. Most of The Used's self-titled were once Goldfinger and Mest songs.

Guess they decided to go back to the "drawing board."

It's just sad that whoever wrote it, none of them ever made anything close to that good again.

  17. I remember when Finch and The Used came out within a few months of each other and people at DTR were super annoyed and called them an industry plant band.

I would consider about half of ILAD to be as good as most of the S/T stuff, it just loses way too much steam in the backhalf

  19. The autotune makes it almost unlistenable on good speakers these days. It's turned up to Taking Back Sunday levels on some songs.

over half the songs on the self titled were demos they wrote and recorded before even meeting Feldman?

  21. One good way to see how much they're re-written to be better. "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" sounds so bad it is criminal:

There’s demos of at least a few of the S/T songs pre-them knowing John and they def wrote at least a few of those songs, arguably some of the best songs. And even if they didn’t, it doesn’t really diminish my opinion whatsoever.

EDIT: didn’t see the two posts above mine before posting this. Meh

Also, sorry to everyone here for my “worst ever” take. Genuinely. This is maybe one of the most annoying detours this thread has taken lol.

    I'm enjoying it, lol.

Plus that demo sounds pretty similar to the final version, just a clear demo. Still sounds pretty great to me.
