Wait what? They already announced a new album? Are they referring to DLID or something else? Just don’t think they should be announcing anything this early. It’s gonna be a long drawn out release again.

Since they have the DLID Instagram account, I wonder if they’re using that as the album title

i think it’s fine for them to say they’re making a new album

  6. I still think DLID will be separate

  7. I think they’re just reiterating it since in case there’s some fans who weren’t already aware of the new album happening.

I didn't know there was a new album already happening. I could've swore that he said they were taking a well deserved break after Notes.

Maybe they are working on an album because they have nothing else going on lol

I don’t remember where I saw/heard the quote but I remember him saying last year that the pandemic has breathed new life into the band because they were planning on taking a break anyway. Plus they re-signed their publishing deal for another 3 albums.

I can’t believe we are getting more music from then as The 1975 and maybe DLID. What a special time to be alive.

Honestly, that’s the best play. Just cancel all tours and start from scratch with a new album in tow. Use the time you can’t perform to do that. The band is extremely fortunate and privileged to not have to worry financially, so this obviously strategy doesn’t work for most bands out there. Since this is now the case, Notes seems like it’s going to be a weird “blip” in their discography.

what the heck are their set lists going to be like now though?! I’m almost of the mind that they’re going to need to do 2 night stays in most A-B markets.

I’ve seen The 1975 on multiple nights in the same city three separate times, and all three pairs of multiple nights, they made only 1 change in the setlist from one night to the next.

I’m really curious what they’ll do setlist wise too. I have a feeling the large majority of Notes songs will never get played live at this point. They seem pretty collectively done with Notes, and have been since June.

I agree. They seemed extremely burnt out on Notes before they even started the touring cycle for it, which is not fair of me to really say and may be a projection of my own feelings on the cycle. Hopefully they learned some of the lessons from the entire Music for Cars era, in terms of their communication to fans and their "overzealous" statements, that they impose on themselves to abide by. Hopefully this time gives them the freedom to really follow the process a little more naturally. Still love Notes.

So I am under the assumption we’re getting Drive Like I Do as filler this year to hold us over. Works for me. Ross said that they’re not doing any live streams because The 1975 now leans on the live show being over the top, so any stream would be a watered down version of them. Makes perfect sense to do Drive Like I Do now. Wonder if we’ll get any music videos, streams with them.

Wonder if the solo albums will trickle out as well?

  19. Damn, didn’t know Ross said that. Sucks he feels that way, with how great their live show is I feel like they’d probably be able to create something really special in the livestream department. They seem like the perfect band to pull off a lot of cool visual stuff

They’ve basically already said two DLID projects and now another 1975 record are all in the works right now, so I think that’s already gone out of the window :-p

I’m not gonna lie, canceling *all* touring for 2021 seems premature to me in January. I get that the shows they have scheduled for summer are definitely at risk, but Matty’s Instagram post really indicates they will not play any shows whatsoever this year. That tells me this isn’t completely about COVID and more they just don’t want to play any Notes shows. I know most on this site disagree with me, but I still strongly affirm that live shows will return this year by end of summer when the vaccine has been rolled out more widespread (this according to the president of Live Nation). At least by the end of the year, shows will be occurring at some level.

  24. it's probably outrageously expensive to plan shows of their size without a guarantee that they will even happen

I think cancelling all shows in 2021 for a band of their stature is by far the most responsible decision they could make.
