Listening to Notes today and thinking about when COVID first happened and how different my life is. Better and worse in many ways, but different nonetheless, and I'm still here!

Fantastic, utterly fantastic record. Such a journey

Edit: almost finished up with it so it's on to this one next

 

I still think Notes is a little bloated, but overall it has most of my favorite songs from the band on it.

 

It’s got some bloat, yes, but it’s still a great album.

 

It's a solid playlist and a bit tough to listen to as a whole album. But there are tons of gems throughout the track list.

 

I like Having No Head and What Should I Say back to back

 

notes is about as good as it gets when it comes to albums that play more like a mixtape ala mastodon's the hunter

 

lol that’s interesting. The Hunter is probably my least favorite Mastodon album but viewing it as mixtape more is a pretty inspired take.

 

Curl of the Burl slaps so hard

 

thats what mastodon marketed that album as at the time haha

 

I say this thing is bloated but when I try to remove tracks, I have a hard time picking what should go? The 1975, The End, Streaming would be my easiest. Bagsy too prob. Playing On My Mind also feels like their least essential acoustic track.

 

I WILL NOT STAND FOR BAGSY SLANDER.

 

Sonically this fits within the 1975 lane of music. I think you guys would appreciate this!

Not talking about these specific bands recently mentioned, but my favorite thing on this website and the internet in general is someone saying “if you like the 1975, you’ll love this!” and it’s the most generic boiler plate 80s band you’ve ever heard

 

No one ever has the secret sauce that the 1975 has because like I said in the fall out boy thread if all you hear from the 1975 is straight 80s worship you need to listen again because there’s so much more going on

 

I truly hate that “Not The 1975” song

 

Yup. I had Notes on earlier and “I Think There’s Something You Should Know” was playing and was just blown away.

 

Notes is their strongest album btw. Even if it’s a bit bulky, the highs are career highs.

 

There are songs on notes I listen to more than any other songs they’ve made and some songs I’ve listened to less than five times lol. just that kind of album. the all timers are unreal though. roadkill, the birthday party, and me and you together song belong in the Smithsonian

 

I hear it every day at work and it’s so stupid it makes me angry
