When I first heard The 1975 (it was the Sex EP) it had an RIYL of Jimmy Eat World and Bloc Party. It makes sense on certain songs

Has The 1975 been featured in many movies? I only know of Love, Simon and Edge of Seventeen. They’re perfect for coming of age films I’m surprised they’re not over featured in that genre.

I get that feeling too. Their music is very cinematic. Though honestly I'd rather hear their ambient stuff in a movie

People are obnoxiously conscious of sounding original in fear of being dismissed for being a rehash. The same fear is then turned against others’ work. No one wants to be forgotten, everyone wants to be remembered.

I was shocked to hear them in Me Before You (during a wedding reception I believe).

I feel like if they were on the scene a few years earlier, they would have been all over Skins.

I remember four years ago I heard Chocolate playing in a casino in Vegas and I thought “they finally made it”. Fast forward to now

I remember five years ago, stumbling upon the Chocolate music video which had just been released. I instantly shared it to my Facebook, saying "you heard it here first - these guys are gonna be huge".

Yeah hearing this band in 2011 and then looking forward to now is insane. Can’t imagine if you followed since the DLID days

The Jimmy influence is present in the debut but I don't think it's any more present than other bands in the "indie" genre. Bloc party initially came to mind for that album actually.

healy has definitely name dropped JEW as an influence im not just pulling it out of thin air because i like JEW lol

  18. im a jew fan, dont exactly hear the influence but it's subjective. i remember thinking chocolate and the city sounded similar to Phoenix on first listen. now it all just sounds like the 1975.

Honestly, give me more 1975 influenced by Radiohead, Jon Hopkins, and Sigur Ros thanks

No yeah I definitely heard that too, and it's prevalent on some songs like The City to name one and Sex for sure

I’m somehow just now finally realizing how great Settle Down, Pressure, and Menswear are. They’ve always been songs I liked, but thought were kinda middle-of-the-road for them, but now they’re all I wanna listen to.
