    "I'll chew on a dog!"

People LOVE pointing out that other people did a bad thing. It's half of what the internet is nowadays and it's dangerous and counter-productive. Esepcially when it's all finger-pointing and no action on the "wrong doer" to remedy the situation/find fault or the finger-pointers to realize that people make mistakes and force others to live and die by their gaffes.

The second half of your post would be a good thing to write about and touch on in a post tbh.

It's like when people go digging up tweets people wrote when they were like 15, and then once you see the tweets you're like well shit yea that was a really awful thing to say, but at the same time why were people going out of their way to dig up that stuff in the first place. What does it accomplish in the end?

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

It accomplishes nothing that helps anyone except the person who did the digging feel "right" and "better". It's gross.

On topic: Matty handled that quote very well. He not only quoted it verbatim, but he also explained why he said it, why it was not meant to be intended like that, and expressed humility and a promise to educate himself. That's all you can ask anyone to do and he nailed it.

  8. Heh, as I was just saying. We're ... (as an industry/bloggers/whatever) ... really not good at this and should self-reflect on what and how we're giving people this information. Like these headlines do everyone a disservice. The publication, the original interview, what was said, what Matty said and apologized for, and onward. It's just ... badly done. All these headlines ... which is most of what people will read anyway ... rreegggzcrg.

I can't imagine doing so much press and having all your words picked apart. That would be so stressful.

This shift in attention grabbing headlines is what bothers me. Everyone is so quick to pull-quote things out of context and slap them in a header yet never address the follow up remarks. In this case, “Matty Healy Apologies instead of “Matty Healy Explains”. It just trivializes everything and lumps everything together for self-serving purposes.

Apologies and the need for apologies is all the rage; big or small.

ignoring the misquote that matty pointed to and focusing only on his apology (making a huge deal about it too) is another frustrating disservice to journalism. guess some people just gotta feel better about themselves

As someone who finds this band mediocre (not awful) but still overrated on this site, I wish Matt kept saying dumb shit and didn’t apologize but keep digging himself further. Fuck. This was a good opportunity for him to be painted in a negative light like I wanted. Oh well, guess I’ll have to wait for the next time.

4 or 5 spins later. Disappointing, as their last two albums are impressive for being great listens start to finish, despite their length. Gonna have to skip Robot and Inside if I listen to this again. Can't stomach either, with the former being incredibly boring and with Healy revealing the narrator in the latter isn't supposed to be fictional. Highlights a subtle streak of dumbfounding, inexplicable misogyny throughout his past lyrics that until this point I've been able to handwave. "Mother issues" is obviously too stark of a generalization, but damn if it's not a factor at some level.
