Like I enjoyed 98 percent of their contemporaries and similar bands of that time (still do for the most part) but they just annoyed the living hell out of me. Him, the sound, the theatrics, etc etc.

Was not a fan of MCR either. Respect them, but never clicked with me.

Sincerity is scary - trying to figure out what’s going on with that high hat I wanna say the third hit is delayed by a 64th or something crazy. It’s geat tho

I was gonna ask you if you had figured it out haha. It seems like it switches from straight to swing or triplet feel almost at random.

I’m geyting to the point where I can’t pick out a top 5 anymore. The other tracks are starting to really round this out

Also did a full listen to ILIWYS last night and it has SUCH a different vibe its incredible. 2 sides of the same coin.

    Best 3 album run

So the version of 102 that was posted on the bands facebook is definitely the version on the Japanese release?

everyone who's (rightfully) entranced by the drums on "Sincerity is Scary" should listen to D'Angelo's Voodoo

    or any J Dilla too

George did a phenomenal job at approximating that rhythm

  11. We won't know until someone cops the Japanese edition I suppose

I’m 100% not listening to any of the singles for Notes.

Also listening to this on 5.1/7.1 channel Surround System is whooooo

re: the hi hats in Sincerity Is Scary

it's a classic J Dilla/Questlove inspired groove that involves ever so slightly playing the hi hat ahead or behind the beat while the back beat remains right on time. It's pretty common in modern neo soul/funky hip hop. They exaggerate the beat a little bit. Hiatus Kaiyote do something similar a lot

EDIT: didn't see the above post already explaining it lol

it’s like they got someone to just play the hi hat and there job was to play it straight but never be on time lol

i cannot imagine, after my 5th total listen so far, ever being annoyed by the riff in Give Yourself a Try. that song is so goddamn fun.

  20. I’ve been into them casually for a while. This record solidified them for me. Returned to the first record this morning and it’s almost incredible how much I like it more “in context” with the others now. It never hit me when it first came out. I liked sex and chocolate and the city but never did give that first record an honest shot. Now I realized they all have thesis versions of the same song opening the album and I’m like woah. Sorry for getting on so late but glad to be here.

I’m really enjoying this album after a couple listens. I wish I hadn’t heard so many songs prior to its release, but that’s my fault. There are a few songs that I’m not entirely sold on, but there’s not a bad song in the bunch. I even like The Man Who Married A Robot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope they come to Cleveland in the next year or two!
