Lyrical content’s importance for me varies from genre to genre. I tend to care more about it in the singer/songwriter genre while in general pop music I care more about groove and melody. Although when bands like The 1975 come along and do both well, it’s obvious why they’re special to so many people.

Does anyone here listen to Hotel Apache? Feel like they’d have a crossover fanbase.

Not to bring this back but I always find it interesting when Future is the rapper that people want to point out for meaningless songs about sex and drugs. I think someone pointed it out a few pages ago that within context, it’s about so much more than just ass ass ass pop a molly and a perc. I mean the last song on his latest non-soundtrack project is called Hate the Real Me...but hey, as long as he’s popping something then it dont matter

people are much less likely to give art made by black artists a glance past the surface level. they'll boil down rap to drugs/money/guns without understanding the conditions these artists are living in and relaying through their music.

Lany is pretty minimalistic pop music with like summer beach vibes mixed with some night drive vibes, and some dream pop too.

Check out: Purple Teeth, The Breakup, Super Far, Flowers on the floor, and the new one

If you're looking for some of the more atmospheric '75 vibes don't sleep on The Japanese House, also signed to Dirty Hit and George Daniel has co-produced a lot of her music. All four of her EP's are great, and the full length is (was?) supposed to drop this year.
