I'm a-ok with this band making people uncomfortable, not sure how to feel about black suffering being used to promote entertainment. Am I just reading this wrong?

 

that's a ridiculously cynical reading of why they're doing it. its not to promote entertainment its to send a message. entertainment can be a vehicle for a message, nothing wrong with that. if anything the entertainment is being used to promote the message.

 

I guess it's easy to switch this around when we don't have the music yet so the message isn't 100% received yet. Not sure I agree that the levels of cynicism are ridiculous but I guess id need to know if other people share my concerns

 

let me ask you this, have the 1975 ever come across as anything less than sincere in the past? why would this be any different?

 

My issue mostly is bc these are legitimately triggering images/videos for a lot of people. Idk.

Interesting perspective. Always totally sincere, or at least trying to be. As far as this being different, this alone is a huge social statement, as uncomfortable/important as it is, it's probably the boldest statement they've made, and my initial reaction is that peolle who aren't as well versed with their heart-on-sleeve style communication might see this as insensitive or tone-deaf. I look forward to hearing more thoughts on it because it's pretty immediately challenging.
