Why? Taylor Swift is inauthentic. There are plenty of female artists I wouldn't say are inauthentic, but this isn't their thread.

Yes. I don't think there are any male celebs with the same reach as Taylor, though. And this is also a Taylor Swift thread.

 

I don't expect any celebrities to ever be 100% truthful or "real" or whatever. I don't expect anyone I know to either, it's just not how real life works.

Khloe tweeted that when people say stuff about her family nothing is off limits. I'm still so mad about it and then her saying that like it absolves her from being an asshole.

You don't know how vindicated I felt when he got dragged a bit recently over that Jessie Williams speech. Unfortunately it's prob forgotten now, and once you've felt the sun on your skin the shade can feel especially cold. Luckily not all heroes wear capes so I trudge on!

 

This is essentially where I'm coming from. Buying into a celeb's persona in the first place is the first mistake.

Like... you just don't get as powerful as these people are by being full of sunshine and puppies.

Wouldn't call 'em inherently sexist, but you're fooling yourself if you don't think her being a woman factors into the way you perceive her or the kind of critique she gets, even if it's subconscious. Female celebrities are absolutely not above reproach and the girl is shady, but nobody thirsts for men to fuck up the way they do with women. That's the point, not that Taylor can't be criticized. It's worth thinking about when approaching how and when to criticize public female figures.

 

I don't think people are upset about their perception of Taylor Swift as fake. I think they're upset because she's built parts of her career on dragging people through the mud, and now we have to question the validity of all her claims.

Her being a woman does factor in the way that I think about her. In regard to this convo, though, I'm mostly thinking about how powerful of a human she is in general. I agree with all of your points. Latent sexism is a problem. I've been guilty of it plenty of times. But as you said, the girl is shady.

Being a Taylor Swift fan is really exhausting sometimes. It almost makes me less of a fan. Not because of HER, but because of all the petty drama that the media stirs up. It's annoying. Whether she gave the okay to Kanye or not, the outcome 100% does not matter. We need new Taylor Swift music ASAP....

 

Yeah she needs to not release new music rn and get out of the public eye for a bit. Even before all this she was overexposed with the breakup stuff and Tom. Plus the 1989 singles being so inescapable. Her break was timed well.

 

I want to believe that all this is actually part of a long con planned by Taylor in a move to revamp her image for next year. She wanted to get caught.

 

I think she is probably the only person that cannot get out of the public eye to save her life. Even when she isn't persoanlly doing anything, other people bring her up which puts her right back in it. I'd say she's staying as low-key as she possibly can right now. It's not her fault that if she goes out there's a million paps waiting to get her photo and start the latest rumor.
