I don't mind people obsessed about the feud but I hate when people start reaching. Discuss the recordings or whatever is connected to the scandal but when ppl start digging up things that are old or irrelevant because they want to continue to fuel their hate that's when I check out. Like recently some dude Taylor was in a play with when she was 11 tried to get his 15 minutes lol. That's necessary never.

Abigail had nerve condescendingly dragging North into it, but she doesn't deserve death threats. Once again twitter has no chill.

I have said I am a Hanson stan. I must not have known the the correct definition bc it's NOTHING like these TSwift and Kanye/Kim fans.

lol that's why I never call myself a stan of anyone. Like I have artists I love and am prob a bit too into, but when you see actual legit stans at work it puts things into perspective haha

She is brilliant for sure. I'm not sure her brilliance is good for the world, but it's certainly good for her.

Now I'm imagining Taylor giving House of Cards-esque monologues to an imaginary camera.

I think the first time I noticed Taylor lying was about her 27 second breakup call with Joe Jonas lol. She implied he was heartless cause he broke up with her in ONLY 27 seconds but then he was like well yeah it wasn't longer cause she hung up on me, so...

But ultimately I don't really expect celebrities to tell me the truth about their lives since they're all trying to sell me something. They're like really rich and fabulous used car salesmen.

I care that celebrities tell the truth because they have so much influence on culture.

I mean it depends what the context is. Them telling white lies about their personal lives doesn't bother me. People are intrusive. I'd lie too. If they're lying about something as her Grammy speech yeah that's a big deal. If they're lying about who they're dating, I don't care about that. I guess it's a whole other ballgame when the celeb's image is about being genuine and down to earth tho

It seems weird they're calling her out for liking "Backseat Freestyle" when it's clearly a huge standout on the album. Also, I can't trust Bill Simmons's insight on other people, that guy thinks soup is a good meal.

Are Taylor Swift's lies "white lies" though? I'd argue that her curated, glossy presence is a pretty big lie that damages the expectations of the young and old people she influences.

I think most celebs lie or manipulate to further the brand or image they want, and some are bad and some aren't so much. I also don't blame many for lying cause they get asked intrusive things often. Again, just depends.

edit: But I just said I expect it to happen because at the end of the day they're here to sell albums or movie tickets and an image. I'm not encouraging it or condoning it but I'm not clutching my pearls at it either

  18. Seems to me what you're making a case against is celebrity worship culture (which, yeah, agreed). Because I gotta say, if your problem is with people's carefully curated public personas not being honest then you're fighting a losing battle we, the unwashed masses, have absolutely no control over. Celebs are always going to lie, cheat and steal to protect their brands.

@St. Nate is a well crafted online persona and brand I use on here to garner influence in the form of likes.

True. With most celebrities it's pretty easy to tell that their public image is a lie, though. With Taylor, it's much less obvious.

Yea, I don't think The Ringer or anyone else should expect celebrities to perfectly portray the image they've created. Who Taylor Swift dates really is no one's business, same for where they go on dates.

The more public side is sometimes troublesome, especially when it's something like Taylor's image that she's this cutesy klutz, like she was in the Apple commercial. It does reek of "I'm just like you!"

Regardless, there's always some what of a disingenuous nature to pop stardom, especially when you're known for your connection with your fans. That goes for anyone, from Taylor Swift to Katy Perry to Nicki Minaj.

Calling a female celebrity inauthentic or a liar doesn't quite sit well with me, I'm guilty of it too

It's one of those weird things where I feel like everyone knows all big celebs do it, but we still don't like when we can see the strings. Cause I do the same thing lol
