I’m not sure if I’m properly expressing this, but this album feels like it was more focused on the spectacle and lore around drop day hype and how euphoric the fanbase would feel with a whole separate album dropped on the same day than trying to write an actual good album.

i just want Taylor to go “alright, I’m going to spend the next year+ writing songs, and we’re ONLY going to release the 12-13 best songs for this next album.”

 

The Black Dog has a TSL reference and I immediately had a smile on my face. From what I heard, it’s pretty great and has bits from every album. Cheers!

All Too Well 10 is fine but definitely less good than the original. It was interesting when it was “this is the original version pre edit,” but once you have her writing new lyrics in whatever year red tv was recorded, it’s completely pointless.

I haven't paid attention to the discourse but I feel like I'm siding with the swifties on But Daddy I Love Him. It's a rare W that stans were upset she was dating someone with a very... controversial persona and were upset/disappointed that things said person had done were seemingly in direct contradiction with things Taylor claimed to oppose. I think the song is sonically beautiful and stands out on the album to me. But of all the things to criticize her fanbse for I feel like that issue was lower on the totem pole to me.

 

This album should be called I Just Wanted to Fuck Matty Healy In Peace.

Yeah I mean definitely not backing that. I guess I'm not around those spaces because most of the conversation I saw around it were fans disappointed and feeling confused and let down at what they felt were the hypocracries. There are always those people who are over the top and it's not okay. I'm (possibly naively) hoping that was a small and loud minority. Which doesn't make it okay. I didn't get the vibe thats what taylor was referencing in the song, but I could def be wrong.

This album feels like it’s moving away from Taylor Swift the musical artist and towards Taylor Swift the brand and cult of personality.

 

Guilty as Sin is starting to be the standout for me here

 

Calling this thing a double-record is confusing and deceiving. The Anthology just seems like a bonus record of glorified b-sides.

Just seems pretty evident, otherwise there would be no The Anthology, the whole thing would be called TTPD?

 

Bit late to this part of the conversation but I like to think the rising verbosity of her songs (which I like) is influenced by Geoff Rickly.

 

Thinking of editing the metadata in Apple Music to split the anthology into discs. Treat it as two discs or is there a further split that y’all think makes sense?

ideally i think two would be most logical, but with careful planning (and potential resequencing), i'm wondering if you could split it into 5 chapters touching on the 5 stages of grief
