I'm on vacation from work and I still haven't even had a chance to listen to the entire first part of the album, which I mistakenly thought was the entire album until I woke up this morning

"I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" is such a phenomenal song. The production is fucking insane, the Bleachers-esque background dialouge stuff is very cool. The "1, 2, 3, 4" is my favorite little detail so far. The way the song shifts and builds, how she sings over the different parts, it all comes together perfectly

I think the best songs on this are her best since Folklore, but it’s overlong and contains some very bad lyrics. I’d put it middle of the pack of her discography. I could see it growing on me if I cut some fat

I like what I've heard of the first half a lot, but I also tend to prefer her work with Dessner much more, so I'm pretty excited about digging into the second half as soon as I get a chance

I actually love the lyrics on here and think I has a lot of her best writing. Honestly can't really think of anything that doesn't work for me in the context of the songs.

another mainstream album that desperately needs an editing job. so sick of 15-20 track albums with 8-10 keepers

That was a long two hours. Definitely agree that a more cohesive, interesting album could be made out of both halves.

Actually kind of had me thinking that, per Jason’s post from last night, someone actually played a variation of that role in Taylor’s life by convincing her to change up her release plans. To me this feels like less of a “double album” and more like two releases thrown together as one at the last minute. Had the thought that the two halves carry the same thematic weight while being stylistically separated as Folklore/Evermore sister albums where the second half would have been released later this year. Then they started releasing variants with “b-sides” from the second half instead, and then decided to just drop it all at once because of the potential for over saturation and exhaustion. Sort of a win/lose no matter how the rollout would have worked because people would have complained that we’re getting “too much Taylor” either way so might as well just drop it all now because, inevitably, there will be backlash again anyway when she drops the next Taylor’s Version later this year or whenever.

Two hours is just too much though. I guess this is where my mileage varies.

I guess there's a version that came out in the middle of the night that has 31 tracks. I believe the second part is digital / streaming only right now, but I'm not entirely sure on that last part

the long version is called The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology on Amazon Music

People dunk on Jack a lot, but he really does some really strong work on this album IMO. Between this and the Bleachers album, I'm back in on him in a way I didn't totally expect this year.

I don’t get it and I definitely don’t like it. What is going on with mainstream pop artists.

I'm not quite that high on the Bleachers album (yet, at least) but I can't deny that there is plenty to love production-wise there. After one listen to this album, I absolutely enjoyed a lot of the production details and think he knocked a lot of it out of the park

If everyone wants to talk about clunky lyrics, they should listen to Bleachers.

I've taken note in other threads about her past few albums, but on this album the entirety of Bleachers performs on four tracks here: The Tortured Poets Department, But Daddy I Love Him, Down Bad and Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Yeah, this was my question - as it makes it confusing as to what the actual release is. What is TTPD? Is it the anthology version? Or the first half…it just makes the rollout unnecessarily confusing.
