i've seen too many instances where fans try to design what they think the cover looks like and all of them turn out bad. this looks just like them, tbh.

i'm doubtful Sweeter Than Fiction goes up too, considering the fact that she released it previously on her own (instead of giving it to someone else and then releasing her version later). my guess is that we'll see these songs on those "More From [insert album here]" compilations she loves to release. i think this also casts doubt on any other soundtrack songs making the cut for rep and debut, as Today Was a Fairytale was the only one that's landed on a rerecord so far.

She doesn’t have any say on whether those versions stay up on streaming. That’s the whole point of the exercise! So those will always be available.

Definitely waiting for whichever variant pops up next in her capitalism spree, though, because I'm not the hugest fan of this blue.

Her TV album art has been so good, which makes this look even worse. The 1989 cover was perfect as is.

We reach for the longest shadow

I had a similar experience. I was always turning my nose up at anything mainstream, then started liking Kanye a little (I know, not the thread), then something happened when 1989 came out, where I realized I needed to stop worrying about what type of genre something was, or how mainstream an artist was. If the songs are good, then listen! I probably called Taylor my "guilty pleasure" at a time when I was worried about how "cool" my EOTY lists were. 2014 would've been ManOrch, Fireworks, PBTT, Joyce Manor, Copeland, Prawn, and The Hotelier (what a year). I had 1989 at 15 that year, which is pretty funny, because I probably return to it more than any other record that came out that year.

TL:DR - a snob who turned his nose up at pop fell in love with 1989 and was a little shy about telling people, and now I usually list TSwift as one of my favorite artists alongside stuff like Coheed, Fireworks, Manchester Orchestra and Turnstile. Good music is good music, guilty pleasures aren't a thing.

caved and picked up the vinyl. the cover is growing on me, and her track record with alternate covers is pretty terrible, so even though those CD variants will inevitably have vinyl equivalents, i'm not hopeful the artwork will be better.

To be honest, this is the one that makes the most sense. Taylor's easter eggs have never been nearly as deep or "mastermind" as they like to pretend. "8/9" being the day to announce 1989 is the exact amount of effort she's given in the past.

  24. Yeah, it was just perfect enough. 8/9, last date of the tour, etc.
