I went back to check to make sure I didn't attribute it to him. He produces what the musicians want and bring to him. That's one of the reasons why everyone likes to work with him.

I would never say his production work itself is flat because of him. It's all what he's given to work with.

Just in passing knowledge, I can name a ton of Jack Antonoff produced albums by a bunch of different artists that all sound pretty different* . That last Bleachers album did sound pretty rough though.

*Within reason, i.e. they are all well-produced, fully-budgeted modern mainstreamish albums.

  4. It's incredible. And if they said George did it all people would be busting in their hands over it. :-p

    God rest my soul
I miss who I used to be
    The tomb won't close
Stained glass windows in my mind
I regret you all the time
    I can't let this go
I fight with you in my sleep
    The wound won't close
I keep on waiting for a sign
I regret you all the time

I realize this is likely an unpopular opinion, and that's fine, but I totally get the notion that people just want more great songs all the time and even most of her non-album stuff is good to very good. I get so overwhelmed when she drops like, 20 songs at once, though. There has been so much Taylor Swift music in the last three years that I feel like I can only really listen to her all the time if I ever want to really connect with most of these songs.

I don't want to call it fatigue, because it's not that. I just love to sit with an album sized collection of songs for a year or two and let me form connections with them, and then get excited about the next batch. With her, at this point, I feel like I've never fully digested the last body of work before the next one hits. I get through one listen of Midnights and get excited to dive back in - but wait, there's 7 more!

This is just a personal preference thing and is by no means a real issue for anyone but probably me, but, alas.

I think fatigue is the right word for it. I get what you’re saying. Her output in the last two years has been so swift (punny) that it’s hard to keep up.

I get you but I just stick with what works for me and save the rest for later. Like I still haven't listened to any of the new Vault tracks and I doubt I'll listen to these seven new songs for a while either. I'll just stick with the 13 song version for now but I'm glad she's making/releasing all this music because one day she might not be as prolific and at least then we'll have a ton of stuff and I can listen to whatever I've not heard yet.

Just finished the 3 AM edition. Easily one of my favorite Swift albums. Top 5 tracks for me in no order:

    Bigger Than the Whole Sky
    Midnight Rain
    Snow on the Beach
    Labyrinth
    Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

I got a push notification from Instagram that Midnights is out now, I have never seen a notification like that before. Also I see on the top of my reddit page at least, a huge banner about the album being out. Marketing dollars being put to use here

The Anti-Hero video is my favorite thing to come out of this whole release so far. So good.

imo the Dessner productions, while still very good, came off as noticeably weaker to me. I also just may have been too tired to fully appreciate the bonus songs, but on first listen I found them underwhelming compared to the songs that made the cut.

You could convince me that was Hayley Williams during that part in Vigilante Shit. Uncannily sounds like her. Credit to whoever brought that up eariler.

I’m convinced lavender haze is actually a red hearse song. I also…wasn’t hugely fond of this record in all honesty.

On first listen to the bonus tracks, Would've, Could've, Should've is the obvious album worthy one. That song is really good, the rest are fine but my initial impression was more frequently "I get why she left this off" than not.

Not to throw strays at The National here, and I'm as big a fan as anyone, but listening to High Infidelity gave me a similar feeling to Weird Goodbyes in that I'm a little worried that the current iteration of their sound has about run its course.

one of the Dessner songs, I forget which off the top of my head, used basically the same drum line/beat as they did in Long Story Short and Renegade, made it very immediately obvious it was a Dessner cut

I think I like all these 3am tracks more than any of the main album tracks

“Dear Reader” is far and away the best track on the whole thing; she should have had it on the main album
