I'm talking about optics here, to me there's no question she's a sincere ally, but I can't blame anyone who sees some opportunism here.

the venn diagram of those statements is 2 circles. the internet is not a monolith.

  2. I was not, and never have ridden the first train. Lack of political statement doesn't make her problematic. Don't put words in my mouth.

  5. The cheesy lyrics were enough to turn me off to any semblance of sincerity. This record is also just straight up not good, so I'm gonna back out of this thread. Enjoy it! Music is music. Like what you like. Plenty of other new music out to keep me satisfied.

first listen: "hm I don't know this is kinda weird and corny and I don't understand why an adult woman would write like this"

a few days later: *full-throatedly singing along* HEY KIDS! SPELLING IS FUN!

Yea I enjoyed all the tracks as well! Album shines in the ballads for me, and the title track could end up being one of my favorite songs she’s done!

False God might be my favorite thing she's ever done.

  10. Me is still the worst song on the album BUT it works 100% within the sequencing of the album

  11. London Boy is my second least favorite

London Boy Me! and You need to calm down are my bottom 3

Which means the remaining 15 are all tied for my favorite because they are so good!

I mean they are insanely catchy so it makes sense why

Just did my first listen through. Paper Rings and I Think He Knows are standouts, I definitely don’t understand the hate for London Boy- it’s basically the bombastic Bad Blood/This is Why We Cant Have Nice Things track of this album.

But seriously, this album is INCREDIBLE.

Edit- My only gripe is the sequencing. My next project will be re-sequencing this album to make more sense.

I know I'm usually the jerk who's telling you to hold off on giving definitive statements about albums early on but....

I don't think this album is 1985 good. It might be Red good. B-)

i’ve been meaning to tell you

Ok well that was not what I was expecting st all. I think I love most of it, excited to buy a deluxe edition tomorrow morning and really dive into the foreword/lyrics/journals.

London Boy has to be a parody, right?

Cornelia Street was a huge standout during my first listen. I'm listening to Noah Gundersen's Lover now. Both albums are extremely enjoyable in different ways.

    Here’s how I would re-sequence the album:

    1. Paper Rings
    2. I Think He Knows
    3. Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince
    4. Death by a Thousand Cuts
    5. London Boy
    6. The Archer
    7. Cornelia Street
    8. The Man
    9. You Need to Calm Down
    10. False God
    11. Afterglow
    12. I Forgot That You Existed
    13. Lover
    14. Daylight

(Other four tracks as bonus tracks)

Trust me on this. Try it. The album just makes so much more sense in this order.

  20. London Boy kinda goes?? Not getting the hate for it beyond the super cheesy lyrics. Cautious Clay rules too and it makes me happy to see his name on this

first listen was a bit slow for me, wasn't super amped on anything until Paper Rings, then almost all the new stuff after that I was amped on. I am sure multiple listens will change that
