Taylor Swift - evermore (December 11, 2020) Album • Page 65

  1. I wouldn't cut anything either. From either record, if I'm honest. There are tracks I'm less attached to, but I still like them.

The Lakes was probably my least favorite song from Folklore, so I'm very pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy both of these. They would definitely not be the two weakest songs on the album, but I don't know that I'd cut anything for them, either. Except...

I'll back the No Body No Crime criticism to a degree - it's super fun, but even beyond it really not being for me it stylistically it sticks out like a sore thumb. It works on Evermore as a victory lap of sorts and I totally understand why people love it, but it would be a more cohesive record without it. Its inclusion is imo a small misstep.

I skip american dynasty off folklore. Evermore has songs I skip but nothing I skip I outright dislike. Just not as attached so I'd rather hear the songs I am attached to. Like tbh I never think "I want to listen to cowboy like me or no body no crime" but I don't think they're bad. I just dont always listen to them when I run through the album

Idk if I’d call anything “bad”, but there are absolutely songs I do not like at all on Evermore. It, imo, has lower lows and nowhere near the highs of folklore

    Regular

There’s zero songs on either album that I regularly skip. I kinda just love them all tbh.

Also I saw someone point out that her female collabs typically have background vocals whereas her male collabs they get entire verses and stuff. It made me ponder, does she have any collabs with prominent female verses or vocals that I'm not thinking of? If not she should do one with the good sis phoebe bridgers or yelyah williams

Colbie is just background vocals mixed with hers too isnt it? Lol I just listened to that album recently and I can't remember

  13. I think I know what you mean. Although it presents a little differently for me: I have more skips on evermore because I really like some of the songs but don't often feel like revisiting them. Ears are funny that way. Definitely agree on the last sentence.

I had an idea the other day, and this may fall flat for most of you... but I personally think that nearly all of Taylor's albums pre-folklore have a fair amount of duds that make it hard for me to rank full albums. For example, the highs of Lover are astounding, but there's too many tracks I don't like to really full love the "album." Same goes for Red, there's at least 3-4 tracks I just do not like at all.

So here's a hard question, but if each of Taylor's albums was a 10-track album, consisting of YOUR 10 favorite tracks from the album, what would be your favorite albums?

    Lover > folklore > 1989 > Red > reputation > evermore > Speak Now > Fearless > Taylor Swift

1989/Red/rep is hard for me to decide on honestly, that's such a great stretch of music.

Album rankings are no longer enough for this board. We need hypothetical album rankings. What would be your ranking of Taylor's albums if you lost your sight but your hearing was twice as powerful.

Honestly my ranking would probably stay the same with that criteria. When I consider favorite albums of an artist, I am mainly thinking about which albums have the most songs I like anyway. An album with 10 songs that I like more than 10 songs on any other album, even if there's another 5 songs on there that absolutely stink, is probably my favorite album by that artist.

There's songs on Astral Weeks that I rarely play, I just like the songs I like so much that I consider it to be my favorite album.

I'm just bitter at how perfect the best songs on Lover are, and how a condensed version would blow everything out of the water, ya know?!?!

  21. You're not wrong on this. A cleaned up and condensed Lover would be a truly hard to touch pop album.

Like, I know the streaming "sales" give benefit to those with longer albums, but London Boy would be a "bonus track" in any other era

Taylor's pop era has always had major "bonus track as lead single" energy...she just really doubled down on that with Lover.

It's always perfect marketing though, Shake It Off, LWYMMD and ME all did exactly what they needed to... got people talking about Taylor, and holy shit were people talking. She's the queen of the "shock single" to lead off a new era
