Absolutely. There were so many decisions Warner made that were complete eye rolls. It really was the case for A LOT of those scene bands at the time (thinking specifically about Armor for Sleep). These major labels just saw the dollar signs that this scene were making and they just wanted to get in on it, without really understanding what made them appealing to their audiences in the first place.

In regards to New Again they really dropped the ball by 1) not pushing Summer Man as the lead single, 2) Not letting Fazzi sing more on the album because "he doesnt have a rock voice," and 3) Pushing them to work with Paul McCartney's producer on the album.

Considering everything about Eddie's behavior since leaving, it feels a little less like "needs a hand" and more like "this could benefit me." I'm sorry for assuming the worst of somebody, but Eddie's tried and failed a few times to get new bands off the ground, has reconnected with Fred enough to do a brief run of dates with him whatever band he tried to launch at the time, and is now buddy-buddy with Mark and getting involved with all of the dramatic posts from this weekend about "making music with an old friend." I don't think it's necessarily...mature.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

They were such a tight live unit during this time. Even if Adam’s vocals weren’t always the best, the rest of the band still gave it 110% every time.

To that last point, I've heard a lot from different people that they wanted to leave to find a different producer and were basically told they had no choice if they wanted to keep working on the songs they'd been working on. I know the bonus DVD that came with the album talked a lot about some songs going through huge changes, and I've always been curious about what their version would've sounded like. I think a lot of this is what Adam means when he talks about not being happy with the way it sounds.

I remember either Shaun or Mark saying something about Warner wanting to do a TAYF double-album when they were working on self-titled (which, incidentally, coincides timeline-wise I think with when the Maine basically left Warner to do Pioneer)

That doesn't surprise me at all. I remember there was chatter during the Louder Now era that Warner wanted them to re-record TAYF with Fred's vocals.

On that note, I say we get New Again (TBS's Version).

Summer, Man would have been a great single.

Not sure why Swing wasn't promoted to all hell either. I specifically remember prior to the album coming out they did a video where they were bringing fans onto buses and letting them get a sneak peek of the album and everybody was praising Swing.

Both of those songs should have been WAY bigger than they were.

Oh so I'm not the only one who remembers this! I swore I heard something similar back in the day (edit: about Fred's vocals on a TAYF recording), but couldn't turn anything up last time I looked and felt a little like I was going crazy and just remembering something that never happened.

Agreed 100%. Those two songs would’ve been huge for them with better production & the right promotion. Fazzi himself said that he was trying to bring some Fred-inspired guitar work to the band with that lead guitar part in Swing.

The band has said they were asked to do the re-record of TAYF.

I still think they should take the time to learn Swing and bust it out as a deep cut at like a holiday show. They'd have to lose a Louder Now song off the setlist though, probably. (Or just completely forgo representing self titled and tidal wave again, more likely)

I’ll never forget in 2013 when they randomly busted Catholic Knees out during their fall tour that year before Happiness Is was released. That setlist also included Flicker Fade, Best Places, Slowdance, Call Me in the Morning, 20 20 Surgery and Beat Up Car. Possibly my favorite set I’ve ever seen from them.

The band can and should play whatever they want to. But it doesn’t seem like it’s a record they feel like their crowd would be that into based on their sets over the years. Minus EMG, as they do play it on occasion. That seems to be the only real exception.

Plus, officially now, only one member on stage was involved with that album. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t or can’t play anything off of it, but (assuming Fred is playing with them) every other album will have at least 2 people from any other album and they’d be more likely to want to play those together.

Legend has it that the first show of this tour also got Lonely, Lonely, and prior to 2014, I think My Blue Heaven was also only made appearances every once in a while but I can't remember if it was on this tour or not. Beat Up Car being debuted live so far in advanced and then rarely getting played in more recent years is always crazy to me.

That tour was the last time I felt l like they actually pulled out "deep cuts" on a tour. For the most part (the past summer with most of the 152 being on the setlist excluded) the setlist has been rather consistent. And I get that when you've been touring as consistently as they have and know most of the crowd wants to hear the older things, you accommodate those folks, but it would be nice to hear a bit of a variety in setlists.

That's in part why the holiday shows are fun because they do tend to play a song or two that doesn't regularly get played.

I can definitely imagine this playing in the radio. Also, somehow I never noticed those Beach Boys-esque backing vocals. It's a nice touch!

Me realizing that you can now say the same for WYWTB and LN, unless you count Fred again. Which may be a fair thing to do.

Yup! And it ruled. At least Catholic Knees did. I think they only did Lonely Lonely for 2 shows on that tour

    Are You Watching Closely?

Guys, I was just joking about Antonio because he jumped into the beef on reddit or insta last week seemingly out of the blue. I hardly doubt he's actually going to be involved in any way.
