Weezer and The Offspring were like, 2 of my top 3 favourite bands as a teenager (the other being Smashing Pumpkins)

When I listen to the Offspring these days, most of my enjoyment is nostalgia-based. Sure, they have plenty of solid tunes, but I’d hesitate to call more than a handful of them legitimately great music. Their songs excelled as a soundtrack for my angsty youth, but not far beyond that

Much of Weezer still holds up for me (though far more musically than lyrically), and it’s not uncommon for me to discover new things to enjoy upon revisiting their songs. And while Weezer does suffer from a glut of output that contains many duds, it’s also not hard to find plenty of gems, even in their post-’00s catalogue

 

I still throw them on occasionally but it is 100% nostalgia driven. Still, they were a huge part of my life as a teen.

I’d say their last solid album was Rise and Fall but I largely still prefer what came before.

 

The last Offspring song I enjoyed was Slim Pickins Does the Right Thing. But I think that was 12 years ago

Weezer on the other hand are still killing it. Ok Human, Van Weezer and Winter all came out within the last 5 years and all are killer

I know saying "hi Mark" at Mark-defending accounts has become a meme on TBS reddit but this actually sounds like Mark:

This music is from his heart not a business stand point. Opinions are valued. Judgment is not . Individuality makes for easy targets. With an anonymous platform how is it still manage to create an environment that values conformity ? Singling out the isolated and trying to make them feel bad for not being part of the group And since you love to say marks not a singer and those guys in that company he owns 25% aren’t capable of supporting others . Heres a challenge . Find one Instance where that frontman might be considered a singer (live) . His voice thru a microphone out an amp sounding good. What are you comparing ? Are you trying to say that that guy is a singer ? What are your beliefs about what a singer is now ? You are unnecessarily trying to cut someone down. You guys can cut it out already , marks not a bad guy. He has friends.. We’ve been friends for 39 years . We’ve also been friends with Shaun for 39 years . All types of jobs,none in entertainment and none of us are grown up . We will continue to encourage our friend mark to create and encourage our friend Shaun to let us all know what happened or at least try to explain . He can Tell us we are not friends and we never were or he can say he’s sorry and we will try to understand . Just please say something to the people that would actually have your back . Unfortunately, I think she might have some struggles of her own, so she’s throwing out a lot of outlandish claims, but I think there might be one or two that have a kernel of truth in it. The mother thing seems unlikely and is either completely made up or a freak coincidence.

As much as I hate speculating about his mental health, it’s sad that Mark has people who are actively encouraging and contributing to this behavior, but I guess he’s burnt bridges with everybody who wouldn’t and is only surrounding himself with people who agree and want to further his narrative. I hope somebody can reach him soon and at least get him to a place where he’s no longer lashing out like this, even if things between him and the band are irreparable, because it’s worrying behavior.

 

Tbh if I was the band’s legal counsel, I would advise them to do just the same

 

This is a dumpster fire. It appears the band has been trying to deal with this internally for about a year now, but clearly some boiling point was reached and now we're watching a mess unfold in real time. If this is the version of Mark they've been dealing with, then I totally understand the band trying to distance themselves. I feel bad for Adam, John and Shaun because a bunch of deeply personal and private stuff that may or may not be true is being made public and they're just bystanders like us. In my opinion, they're trying to handle this the right way while Mark continues to look worse with each passing hour. Hope this gets resolved soon cause it's not good for anyone.

 

I think their silence regarding his absence makes a lot of sense now that a lot of this is coming out, and I always figured them not addressing anything in a larger way was due to some kind of respect for his privacy during difficult time.

Their management (and probably lawyer) have to have some idea of what’s happened in the past week, but there’s a good chance that the other members themselves don’t even know (unless people are texting them updates personally) most of what’s been said on the reddit and Mark’s Instagram comments. John is likely blocked based on the unfollows, Shaun hasn’t been on Instagram in a long time, and while Adam posted to his story yesterday there’s a good chance he hadn’t been on Instagram the day he was tagged in something, and all of them seem very Offline when they’re home with their families. But I imagine they and a lot of their friends have been advised to not make any comment—especially not one in text—for the time being.

 

The way this makes every anonymous poster in the reddit so mad
