I think this will probably be in my top 20 albums this year. I haven't liked anything TBS since Louder Now but listening to this in the morning felt like it's an album that's actually going to stay with me unlike their last couple of releases. Death Wolf and Fences are early favorites but I definitely want to give it more time.

It hasn't fully clicked with me yet, but I think this might be their strongest release. It's refreshing to hear them make an album that doesn't feel at all like an attempt to cater to TAYF fans. I just wish it came out in June so I could've jammed to it all summer.

No. That's my favorite too. Definitely the catchiest song here and a super fun car ride jam

    first listen thoughts:

Adam sounds great, john is everywhere, the tones on the intro of I felt it too tho, the climax of holy water is classic tbs, reminds me of one eighty by summer.

"the devils in the details/and we don't go in there" is one of my favorite lines they've come up with.

it feels like they've perfected the bar band sound. a lot of their songs sort of have the feel of "does this song need a rocky jam to end it? what the hell lets do it" I love it though, feels like they're really comfortable with their sound as a band now and I could understand a desire to retire a lot of the old material. I've always held TAYF and WYWTB as classics, and found something to enjoy about everything else, but this might be a close third best. definitely their late career classic.

That's not completely true. They definitely didn't clean things up completely in a few places (one example I just heard was at 0:17 in "Call Come Running" when he sings something like "giving just another" on a downward line). Nothing wrong with that, it might even be preferable for the most part, but there are a bunch of spots where it's not locked in, to give it personality or whatever. And it's Adam, so if we're being honest, this was all probably much more pitchy before they cleaned it up. His voice, for me, has always lived and died on the production and the style choices he makes.

Yeah but this feels like they've finally come into their own as a band, where they can look at the past through rose tinted glasses but also have a very sound progression for their future.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

First impressions for me are good. Feels like it lags a little in the middle section, but that may just be because I'm listening to it in the background. Really liked In The Middle of It All and We Don't Go In There as a 1-2 punch, You Can't Go Back being possibly my favourite so far.

Their records are all pretty consistently good to me bar the first 2- only really got into 3-4 tracks of TAYF and WYWTB never clicked with me at all. Can't see this changing my mind honestly, can't wait for my vinyl copy to arrive.

I've listened to the album 3 full times in a row at this point. Honestly I was blown away by it. Like so many other people, this was one of my gateway bands into this kind of music, so they mean quite a lot to me. Sticking it out with them over the last 10+ years has been quite the roller coaster ride, but it's great to see how they've settled into a groove since reuniting with John and Shaun.

So, Tidal Wave. I think this is their best album since Louder Now, honestly. When Happiness Is first came out I didn't really care for it, and was actually a bit disappointed. The album has since grown on me a lot, to the point where I respect the hell out of it even if it isn't anywhere near my favorite by them, so when this album was announced I kind of didn't know how to feel. Then they put out "Tidal Wave" and I really didn't know what to think because it didn't sound anything like TBS. But then "You Can't Look Back" and "Death Wolf" were insanely good and my hype levels went through the roof.

After finally hearing the full album, I wasn't disappointed. I feel like the band hasn't had this much energy and enthusiasm in a long, long time. It's infectious, honestly. And wow does it sound really good, too. Mike Sapone should just produce every album by bands from the early-00s trying to mature gracefully (see also: Mayday Parade's excellent Black Lines from last year).

So yeah, this one will probably be up there for me come year's end. Favorite tracks are "Homecoming," "Holy Water," "I'll Find A Way To Make It What You Want," and, of course, what I consider to be one of the best songs the band has written in a long, long time, "You Can't Look Back."

Also, if I had to rank TBS' albums, it'd be:
    1. Tell All Your Friends
    2. Where You Want to Be
    3. Louder Now
    4. Tidal Wave
    5. Self-titled
    6. Happiness Is
    7. New Again

At Best Buy they were acoustic versions of "Tidal Wave" and "Holy Water." Don't know of any other versions from other stores, though.

Haven't listed to this yet, but I'm pretty confident they're playing it front to back in Chicago right now. They sound very good right now.

a little disappointed on first listen, i love the first song, and the last 5, but hated "tidal wave" on first listen (sounds hardly better than a bad green day song to me), "you can't look back" is good but hasn't quite clicked with me, and tracks 4-7 just really dragged on. hoping it'll grow on me.... "happiness is" was probably my favorite album from them and this one doesn't quite stand up to it overall, but it has some great moments... "holy water" has the best album vocal performance i've ever heard from adam, so many high notes i'm afraid it wont be able to be replicated live (and wasn't from the video i saw a while back.) and the last few tracks are very experimental for them. i'll need a few more listens to decide how i really feel about the middle section.

Hahaha that was wild. The transition from Tidal Wave to the old stuff was like watching an opening band before a headliner. It was cool though

    and a little jingle...

There's so much praise in here 0_o.....it's making me want to give it way more tries....sigh. I'm just really not understanding it yet.....like it feels like they lost something...and what they gained in return doesnt compare.....it's alright...it's just not what I come to TBS for. I'm going to give it more tries though....
