Idk, to me it felt like the cleanest marketing campaign they’ve had in a long time and the album has been pretty universally well received?

I'd say. The marketing campaign has been a blast, and if it wasn't for it I would've never won a Google Meets meeting with the band and a bunch of other fans. I actually feel like I'm involved in the fanbase, and I love that.
Still kinda wish Ronald McDonald reviewed the album though. I secretly need to him to scream "A LITTLE MORE YOUR LOOOVE!!" in his best Adam voice.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Four 152 songs in a 45 minute festival set is a wild move lol.

they’re a “you have to actually be there” type of live band the recordings can’t ever do it justice

152 songs sounded good from the bit of jumping around I did.

I thought they sounded pretty good. Seeing all these people be like "THEY SOUNDED SO MUCH BETTER BACK IN THE DAY!!!" are clearly looking through rose-colored glasses because ahhh no, they didn't. Adam specifically. He sounded actually a bit worse in the day imo.
Some people were also saying that he sounded deeply intoxicated? I didn't get that at all. He just loses himself in the magic of being onstage. That's just who he is.

I've been into them for almost two years, funnily enough. Yeah I joined recently but I've seen plenty performances of theirs from the past (recorded, but still). Adam has never been the best singer. Sure, there are times that his singing has been good, but he's never been spectacular. More often that not he struggles to stay in key, and this has been true since the start.

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again - this band is best served in an indoor 1-2K cap venue where they have die-hard fans screaming every word and the energy takes over and nobody gives a shit about how Adam sounds because nobody can hear him over everyone anyway.

They are not good when they aren't the main draw of the night or playing in huge outdoor venues in front of fans that are either casuals or only know a few songs and the energy is dead.

Absolutely. Having seen them upwards of 20 times in a variety of settings, the smaller venues have an energy that serve them so well.

for what it’s worth, it seems a lot of the Coachella criticism is coming from people who stayed home and watched a livestream that had plenty of audio issues vs the people who were there in person. And seeing that many people at their stage who seemed to know the words to at least their hits at Coachella was just a lot of fun.

I also liked that they played almost half their new record which was a pretty bold choice when you consider what the Coachella audience might known it makes sense when you see how they’re having fun playing those songs in particular.

is John ok? His vocals were rough rough here, and he really looks like he is struggling at various parts.

I think the audio on the livestream did them dirty. of course they’re not going to sound perfect but the videos they’ve been sharing on their instagram that were from people in the crowd sound better than the stream to me?

Finally, someone else mentions it! John's voice seems just as shot as Adam's in my opinion. Nathan sounded great though.
I was expecting them to play a lot of 152 and they did not disappoint. Play your hits but play some songs for the fans--Deftones did the same thing.

I have also said this for years, John has not sounded good in a really, really long time and typically now just yells all his parts and nowhere close to pitch. I haven't seen them live since 2019, but from 04-19 saw them 20+ times (seeing them again in June). Obviously wasn't part of any of those 04-10 shows but one thing I have noticed a lot since the reunion is he seems disinterested during a lot of the shows I have seen them. I am hoping that has changed with the release of a new album and they're starting to play some newer stuff/different sets. But during the whole 20 tour and a few tours before that, he just didn't seem like he wanted to be there in shows I was at.
