Bought Betrayal on Baldur’s Gate yesterday and did a casual playthrough. It’s really fun.

I’m a bit frustrated though because I realized I don’t really have an immersive tabletop group. Most times I’ve played it’s only casual and it often composed of people looking at their phones when it’s not their turn and then starts asking what happened on their turn. It’s infuriating. I don’t want to be a stickler and do a no cellphone rule but I really hope I can find people locally who’s willing to really play board games and have fun with them, not treat it like some side activity.

I am starting my own board game collection and have a list of games I would like to pickup, but I wanted to reach out to others about good games to purchase since a lot of my list is swayed towards the deception side. My initial goal is to get a few 2-4 player games and some that are better for 5+ such as The Resistance. I would also like a nice variety of styles so that I can be flexible depending on the group I am hanging with. Thanks in advance!

pandemic legacy is amazing, my family started that whole thing last weekend and it's nuts.

raiders of the north sea is fun

i don't mind clank, but it's not my favorite

i really enjoy Deception, but you need probably 4-5 people for that one

Have you been to www.boardgamegeek.com? That'd be the best place to start your research on the types of games you and your group may like. When I was getting into the hobby my initial order from CoolStuffInc was mostly 'gateway' Euro games: Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, etc. But if your friends don't mind more involved games, don't assume everyone has to play 'easy' games to start off. I'd stick with themes that you and your friends might like.

Here are a few 5+ player games that me and my friends really enjoy. I also don't like deception/social deduction games, so there won't be much of that from me:
    7 Wonders (card drafting)
Captain Sonar (team vs. team, submarine battle)
Exit: The Games (escape room in a box)
    Formula D (car racing)
For Sale (little auction card game)
El Grande (the grandfather of area control games)
Power Grid (my favorite game of all time - economic game)
Small World (sort of like fantasy Risk, but way better than Risk, and doesn't take forever)

I just got Pandemic Legacy (both 1 and 2), but I haven't started them yet. I'm still waiting for my friends to get together and commit to it.

Thanks for the rundown! Right now, I only have Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Wits and Wagers. Pretty lean collection at the moment.

I’ve been playing hobby games for 8 years now and I still enjoy those 3. So great start.

Spyfall is super fun for 5-8 players if you're into games that involve bluffing

That's good to hear. I have been mostly a casual player with friends and families during the holidays, but I wasn't completely invested and ignorant to how robust that space is with expansions and whatnot. Having moved to a new city and not knowing a ton of people, I have found a new appreciation for these games along with meeting new people.

Is Pandemic Legacy good for 2 players would you say?

Also is it good to newcomers that haven't played Pandemic?

    I believe
I've heard it is good for 2 players, just like regular Pandemic is. Regular Pandemic is a little easier with 2 players, but I'm not sure about Legacy. I can't speak about it for newcomers, but if they're committed and interested, I'd go for it.

My siblings didn’t have any gift for me yet so they let me choose. So I went to the local hobby store and grabbed Scythe. Very excited to play.

I like that you can play it alone.

Sorry for late response, it's the game where you create a deck around 3 heroes and have to quest while fighting the encounter deck, from Fantasy Flight Games.

Hoping it’s not too much trouble but can you link it here? That sounds like something I would enjoy. Thanks!

Also played a few games of Scythe for the past week. It’s so good. Euro style. very easy to play, hard to master.

Ordred Arkham Horror The Card Game.

Any other 1+ player games around? Seems the ones I want to play, Betrayal on Hill House and the like seem to be at least 2/3 players. I only have one bud who plays games with me and don't want to only wait around for him to play.

Do you like deck building games? Star Realms is a 2-player deck builder that is very easy to pick up learn. Super cheap and tons of fun.

Triple posting but I taught my SO how to play Coup and she DID NOT like the game at all. Mostly because she’s not good at bluffing (looking at you Resistance).

This is my predicament as well, it's just my wife and I and it's kinda hard to find have we're both interested in.
