But what I’m saying is, you’re not locked into those choices. You can choose to act differently regardless of how it’s released. You don’t have to, of course. But you’re not stuck with it based on the release model. It’s totally up to you.

people being jerks likely kills far more discussion than a release model. There’s no way to ever actually know though. How could you possibly count the number of people who actively choose to not post because they fear being judged or made fun of? We can’t measure the absence of posts. But I’ve seen people say that’s exactly why they don’t post or even bother going into certain threads. This is all a choice as well. I don’t think we make the best one a lot of the time.

perhaps basing a shows popularity off posts in a punk-music themed forum isn't the best way to go about it

exactly so if you don’t like weekly episodes make YOUR choice to wait until all are released to watch them, just change up how you like to enjoy things!

    yeah good okay Prestigious

If the VFX in the second half of the season are as bad as the One-lightning-transformation scene then uh

it’s more telling that almost every non-netflix service does a mix of binge model and week to week models depending on the show and, oftentimes, the genre. comedies tend to be more binge, dramas/genre shows tend to be more week to week. no one is saying severance is more popular than stranger things, they’re saying it’s more popular than if the show would have been dropped all at once. it … pretty indisputably is.

  6. From the other angle I’m trying to think of any show that’s been as massively impactful to the zeitgeist in general as this one in a while … and can’t think of much. Not really sure how it could possibly be more popular. I think I saw it had the biggest opening weekend of all time for Netflix.

yeah I’m wondering if most of the budget was saved for the last 2 episodes?

Yellowstone is the most popular show on tv and it isn't particularly close, but you'd have me fooled as i've never seen an episode and don't know how to find it lol

Isn’t this whole thing about creating more discussion? I actively posted when this came out and shared a lot and would respond to others as they were watching at a slower pace without spoiling anything. Why would I cha be my preference when it allows me to discuss with anyone, regardless of where they’re at in the season? I have typed way more about the show but am not posting it here because this place can be toxic as hell sometimes and it’s not worth it to type it all up to just get dunked on. Nice how you’re ignoring that point, by the way.

if you truly want discussion, I gave you options. If you don’t want to change to engage and discuss it, that’s fine. But complaining about the release model and blaming it for lack of discussion when it’s really your choices that cause the less discussion is weird. What do you actually want? No one said you have to change how you enjoy the show. I made suggestions to foster more discussion. You are more than free to not do any of it.

a show (and all Netflix really) should change its model because you feel locked into your choices? I dunno, that seems weird to me.

that's actually kind of the perfect example. it started averaging 1.5ish million viewers an episode and now in its fifth season it's pulling in 7m+ every episode week to week. those are ... insane numbers lol. massive show and that doesn't happen if everyone is watching the entire season in one weekend every year.

I gave my reasons several times. I didn’t ignore it. I am done responding to you, it’s just getting annoying.

I could argue that week-to-week definitely hurt WandaVision in the end because people had so much time to theorize that there was no way the ending could live up to the expectations.

I won’t make that argument because playoff hockey is more fun, but there’s definitely two sides to the coin there.

The absolute worst part about LOST was all the fan theories, most of which were absolutely insanely stupid and incoherent, devoid of all logic. Just the dumbest nonsense that the show had already disproven a lot of the time. So that on top of the wild expectations, oof.

See looking back, the most fun part of WV was the weekly text with my friends about wtf just happened but then there def was some let down at the end because it didn’t live up to my own hype. Two sides to the coin, but models have merit and flaws.

I’m so stupid for expressing my opinion about the awful awful fan theories that plagued discussions during LOST. I’ll go fuck off now.
