I don't dispute that. Something as short and rewatchable as I Think You Should Leave is great for a binge for example. I think Stranger Things is something that would be great for sitting with and speculating on for a week. I absolutely think binging is a reason I forget so much of what happens in shows. I barely remember season 2 even though I know I really liked it. But this is the world now lol. I wish I had self control to not watch something til they're all released. But I do not. And you miss the discussion if you wait. Eh. Nothing is perfect.

I would probably consider that you don’t remember much about season 2 because it’s years ago than the fact that you probably watched it in one weekend vs 9 weeks.

You guys act like prolonged internet discourse about content is a good thing lol

I mean that’s a valid choice. But it’s a choice. You can choose to post more or respond to others as they watch as time goes by. Or you can choose not to. Again, totally valid if that’s chosen. Nothing stops discussion based on how it’s released. There are always choices to be made. Do you post after each episode and share some thoughts? Do you wait til the end and share more thoughts? Do you go through and respond to other posts that were made while you were finishing? I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to any of those. I think discussion is as good as what you’re willing to put in.

but maybe I’m a crazy person. I don’t really know.

  5. I am kinda laughing at the popularity of a show catapulting a song into the charts and being a massive viral sensation … also being called “dead” at the same time.

Once I rewatched Breaking Bad again, it was super noticeable how much stuff I didn't absorb because I sped through it. So I stand by my take, I'm not gonna argue though lol.

That part of the tweet was obviously stupid

the kate bush song would have topped the charts whether it was every episode at once or the week episode 4 dropped

I mean if I watch one episode I post my thoughts about that episode because everyone is on the same episode. I don’t come in a binge show thread and post my thoughts after each episode because no one is on the same episode. And when I binge episodes bleed together so I have less thoughts on individual episodes and more thoughts on the show as a whole.

I mean, I’m not going to argue with someone who seems to deny that not remembering something from 5 years ago can’t possibly have to do with 5 years passing. That’s a faulty foundation, at best. There’s no argument. Stand by whatever you want. I can’t stop you.

  12. I’d be curious to look at the engagement around something like this and the impact it has versus Moon Knight. Which felt like a thud on a weekly basis .. and I’m not really seeing Obi Wan ignite the internet on fire (besides the racism stuff) either.

If I were to compare engagement I would look at WandaVision, the ultimate theorized show to its own detriment, vs. Stranger Things 4

it's more traceable on shows that build on the word of mouth from gaining an audience week to week. look at abbot elementary from last year. zero chance that becomes the sensation it did if it's getting dropped all at once vs building its audience over ... 9 months.

  15. One could also argue that something being more memorable has more to do with the fact that it's more memorable. You could've watched two shows at around the same time a year ago and remember one more than the other.

Again, all valid choices. But they are choices that you actively make. You could take notes as you go if you didn’t want to forget something and were waiting until you finished watching all of it. Or not. Again, it’s totally up to you. Nothing is stopping you from posting more than you. And that’s fine. We don’t have to post our every thought. In my experience, when I do, I just get dunked on. That seems to kill discussion more than how something was released. But that’s just me.

This is absolutely a better discussion than if episode 2 dropped a few days ago lol. But you're in my brain, you got me. The fuck? Take it easy.

This does seem to be a discussion some people are weirdly passionate about which brings me back to…are we sure more internet discourse is a good thing?

Nah I've changed my mind. No internet is better.

  21. I was also thinking Severence, weekly, less than 200 posts here. :(

ST has averaged about a thousand posts per season in this thread. Same as WV s1.

  22. If the binge model wasn't highly successful then Netflix would not stick with it. There isn't anything they care about more than their bottom line. The other streaming services switched back to weekly releases for one reason: no one else can actually keep up with producing as much content as Netflix does to make the binge model work. The always online obsessives that make up the social media engagement shows get is such a small percentage of the actual viewership.

Severance is a good one based on Pat’s addition of weekly hype building it up.

Personally Idc what method they release it as long as it’s good. That’s why I’m like “whoa you all care far more about this than I do” where I’m just eating my popcorn enjoying Vecna doing Vecna things.

Severance would not have gotten the recognition IMO if it was dropped all at once.

but my choices are based on the binge model/weekly episodes, that’s legitimately what I’m saying
